I made a little progress last night, but I'm going to be cutting it close to hit this week's deadline:
the background is purely a placeholder right now. I wish I could comment on everyone's work, but with the little time I have right now I'll just cover a few reactions. Overall, it's awesome to see all the activity this time around! Googs: I like the new design- it reminds me of a monster from the old Hanna-Barbera Thundarr cartoons (yes, in a GOOD way), but of course taken much, much farther. Jakers: I like the designs, especially the left one! I'm all for pushing hard against the boundaries of the spec, and I think your tumbleweed critter is a clever answer. Oct-Jones: Looking really great- just keep an eye on your proportions between the two creatures. The one on the right seems to have much longer forearms than the one on the left, even with foreshortening taken into account. The right skin texture will make these guys really interesting. Holdenlizard: Hope you're still at it- I like the sketch you submitted quite a bit, and I'm glad to see some younger participants (especially when they show so much promise!). You've got a really original design coming along- very impressive. Don't forget the spec calls for a 3/4 view, which means seeing the creature from an angle to the right or left- here's a link to an example from a technical drawing site. Scorge: So, last night I was showing my wife some of the finals from past contests, and as wives often do she was trying to be very encouraging... for most entries, she would say "Well, yours is just as good as that persons" (which isn't the case, but that's the sort of thing spouses are expected to say). Then we get to one of your entries, and she says "Oh, but not THAT guy..he's WAY better than you!". Anyway, great work as usual! |

Looking awesome everyone!
Can't wait to see all of these finished! I'm hoping to get some more work done on mine tonight Anyway here are a few thoughts:@ tyrus - looks great so far! I think you could add a bit more detail to those feet and how they work. I like the colors you're using for the organism. I also like that you're creature looks approachable. There are a lot a "city deer" where I live. This reminds me of them. @ Jakers - Hey There! Welcome to Creature Planets! Looksing awesome! I like your philosophy with regards to looking for Raccoons for reference. Very smart. Excited to see more work! I like the sketch on the lower left the best ![]() @ Darryl_Elliott - Looks awesome! Its gets meaner looking every time! Love the eyes. Good job on pushing that leg back into space. you could probably continue that effect on some of the lower body as well, just to push it back a bit. Keep going ![]() @ Grumbleputty - Looking great! I really like your take. The prompt does call for jointed limbs, however, you've added these little finger-type things to the end of the arms. Are those the limbs? I like it. It was never specified if the limbs were used for movement so I think it works. I like the belly on them! @ Googs - Looking awesome! I love the mouth ans the eyes! Excited to see where it goes from here! ![]() @ oct-jones - Looks great! Really great idea in adding the two so we can see all around he species. Looks like a very natural pose too. Great job. As you move further into the drawing really try to explain how those legs are connecting to the body. This looks like it will be a great finish. @ Santana - Looks awesome! I really think this is a great piece. I like the head you've given your scavenger. It's a comical pose too I think the back leg could be a little bulkier since they are so long. It might need more leg power to hold up that body. That ray is also a bit lost. In your final would should try and push that trashcan back a bit with some atmosphere maybe. Great job! This will be a great finish!Keep going everyone! We have a little over two days to finish these up! Th next topic is in the works and will be lots of fun ![]() In regards to Grumbleputty - Thanks for the suggestion about the polls situation. If we aren't able to fix the poll problem tonight that I will ask everyone to go ahead and use the "thanks button" tomorrow. Either way we need to get it figured out so it's better if we still have a poll to practice on. I'll talk to Shane and admin tonight to see what we can do. Thanks! ![]()

Ah, no that's just bad spelling on my part. I meant "rat". The bottle cap opener is fine if you'd like it in there - The main focus is the creature so as long as it's a second read then you can keep it if you like. ![]() Just a thought though - I suppose rats could have been brought over to Viscin by humans from earth but it is highly unlikely that they would be there. Perhaps you could paint up an alien organism that fills the niche of the rat? Instead of just painting a rat or mouse... Although, it wouldn't surprise me if rats and mice followed us into space, they've followed us everywhere else... Suddenly I'm in the mood to watch Ratatouille ![]()

I don't think they are cheesy. It was never technically specified that the limbs had to be used for movement - just as long as there is a good explanation for them... and yes they could be a bit more prominent.

Awesome updates everyone
So, After a day of nothing done, I'm heading some more to the end with the nearing deadline Focused on highlights this session, wanted to practice them since I have been lacking a bit on Highlights in my other works Also went and do a Bit of detail work on the face and had to remake the whiskers ![]() I do hate it when I think small unintended accidental details seem so nice compared to the rest lol. Looking at the eye Also did some very simply color studies, But still not sure about it Next I will also take a look at some texture work and some more detail work. Also the environment and background A bit more touch
