CharacterFORGE: General Discussion, Rules, & Questions
07-06-2010, 05:42 AM
GENERAL ACTIVITY INFO:
CharacterFORGE is a weekly activity (occasionally a bi-weekly activity) on CGHub that will focus on character design, ideation, and illustration. More importantly, CharacterFORGE will be about personality exploration. The character descriptions provided may not always be human or humanoid, but they will have certain character traits and personality quirks that will have to be interpreted visually. This is where you get to be creative in your approach to the challenge. You will have a number of methods to handle this, such as the character's clothing or attire, their body language, or the personal effects they carry with them on a day-to-day basis. Ideally, you will use a combination of the above to enhance your overall design.
Important things to consider will also include the silhouette or shape of the character; does your character stand up straight?--Or does he/she/it slouch? Do they look wise beyond their years?--Or are they naive, maybe somewhat aloof? You should also be concerned with the overall presentation of your character, avoid using the simple white backdrop if you can, consider ways you can tie in the background to fit your character's personality. Keep these things in mind as you begin to construct your entry for the CharacterFORGE challenge and follow the provided description closely. Critical thinking is a MUST for artists in all creative fields, consider this another place where you can hone that skill.
Please post all images using CGHUB's attachment manager, and keep all images at a reasonable size (1000-1200 pixels in width or height). Images posted slightly smaller or larger are fine, just don't get out of control. If you need help posting using the attachment manager, send me a PM or ask someone else in this thread publicly and you will be helped. A New thread for all Final images will be created. ONLY 1 image can be presented as your Final. The main reason for using CGHUB to host the image is so there are no dead links, especially when images are posted in the Finals thread for voting.
