Default iPad pressure sensitivity...

Definitely an interesting bit of software that's been developed(link below). While I'm pretty sure iPad isn't a computational beast I'm also pretty sure that a technological beast, in tablet form, that will hold a charge for more than 20 minuted isn't coming along anytime soon. The iPad, perhaps in it's next iteration should be a great tool for on the go sketching. Already being able to save layered PSDs via SketchBook pro makes it more than usable now.

Too bad there's such a delay with every stroke D;
It could be nice if that were fixed.

Here's a nice demo, without the pressure sensitivity. Granted at larger resolutions, you would have to probably switch to a desktop workstation, this definitely seems like it could suffice for an e-Sketchbook on the go that's lightweight.

I have been using mine as a on the go e-sketchbook and it works amazingly well in my opinion.

Apparently HP's tablet will come with a wacom like stylus, hopefully it will have pressure sensitivity built in from the start.

Here is an image I did on my iPad (most of my recent works in my gallery as done on iPad)

Even without pressure sensibility you can have a lot of fun with it ! Most of drawing app have pressure sensibility simulated (works with strokes speed) but it's not very intuitive in my opinion...
Anyway I got addicted to it since I got it. You can really use it as a digital sketchbook : it's light, you can hold it in your hands, turn it as you want, draw directly on your digital canvas using your finger or a stylus
I put some of my video process on youtube here :

Wow, that's pretty good. Did you get one of those stylus accessories?

The ipad's touch capabilities are really amazing really and IF apple decides to open up the api I think pressure sensitive painting will be really good.

If you have a Mac and install Better Touch Tool you can see visually how the trackpad "reads" your finger. It goes from a tiny dot (light touch) to as large as your palm. Obviously a wacom style thing would be ideal but I totally wouldn't mind this kind of hacked pressure sensitivity. In fact i'd LURVE it. But I'm not holding my breath .

Horus, thanks, yes I have a Dagi stylus but finaly I only use my homemade stylus.

Stevekim, I didn't knew the Better Touch Tool, I will try it. I think the iPad has not show n its full potential yet...

I’ve been looking for a stylus for the iPad and was wondering if any of them would allow me to replace paper and pen? I’m looking to be able to take quick notes and drawings like one would on paper.

Maybe Reyenes could give you some tips on stylus'. I saw a homemade one made with aluminum foil and a pencil on youtube, but that was a little too ghetto for me.

Here is a video I find interesting. Comparison between Apple iPad and Motion Computing.

Even if I am a huge Apple fan it seems you can do much more with Motion Computing at a lower price and higher performances.

By the way I will probably buy both as soon as possible.

PS. Mathieu you should write a post with all your iPad tips, you are an iPad master. bisou mon pote.

Simon (la bise aussi) indeed Motion Computing looks great if you are looking for a real portable computer with all its advantages and inconvenients... but in fact, what I love with the iPad is that it's not a real computer : it's easier and more intuitive to use. You can open or quit any applications without waiting for long loading processes, go to the net or your mailbox and go back to your sketch automaticaly saved very quickly. Next month the iPad Os will have the multitasking update.
iPad is great for basic actions, lesuire use and sketching use. And that's all I want from it : easy to carry, easy to use and great autonomy. However, I really miss the pressure sensibility so for professional work I still use my computer. But I think Apple had not anticipated the artistic potential of the iPad... I guess next updates or next generation of the device will have interesting improvements for artists. Well, I hope so !

About the stylus. I have tested some : I didn't like the pogo sketch because you have to press hard on the screen to get a response. The DAGi stylus slides better on the sreen but it's not very intuitive to handle because of its strange form. So I made my own stylus using an old one and a conductive sponge. It works perfectly ! You can find many tutorials on the net (search for "homemage ipad stylus+sponge")

Another tip : don't waste your money in a screen protection, the iPad screen is far more resistant than any protection.

Here is my last digital painting on iPad

Found another really insane iPad paining, but that's almost not new anymore as they're popping up all over the internet.

I'm wondering if Brushes is now using Ten One Design's simulated pressure sensitivity code that I think was open sourced? Any Brushes users have an idea about this?

Im looking forward to Wacoms iPad killer. Its time for Wacom boys to hurry up to reveal something which is like Cintiq and iPad in-one. In one word, Cintiq with hardware

The iPad would likely still be less sophisticated for drawing even with an app that takes advantage of pressure sensitivity, etc., but you'd have all the other iPad features--including the portability.

I have to sit back and watch while others discuss and develop these ideas, but I hope we see more grow from this. The iPad could become as ubiquitous as a paper sketchbook in an artist's bag. Lucky for me, the case I'm using can hold both.
