    Default Xanath's sketchbook

Heya! My name is Anton I'm 26 years old and I'm currently studying game development at the university of Skövde in Sweden. Been drawing for a while without any real direction, but then I layed eyes on some really crisp digital art from you people out there.
When my brain reacted to the awesomeness of these works it generated what can best be described as inspiration, I wanted to find means to make me a better artist! (and I still do!)
So I got meself a tablet and started drawing and painting more frequently.

Bored yet? hmm.. Maybe I'll just dump some god damned pics and we'll see where this goes

Wouldn't mind some comments and critique of course

Whats up man, I really like the character that has the two glowing hands, I think it looks really cool. Your other stuff is pretty cool too, keep up the good work!

Diarum: Thanks mate! It was a concept for a 3D character Dunno if I'm allowed to upload 3D stuff in this sketchbook though.

Here's a new piece I just finished rendering. Spent longer time on this than I usually do. Could have had some more contrasts on it, even though he stands overcast weather.

AlexTooth: Hey thanks for the crits! I'm actually trying to do more studies lately, pretty hard, but that's what it's supposed to be I guess.. So I can learn something Bout colour and lightning and such. I tend to use too much desaturated colours, have to get away from that.

Here's two studies from life. Don't remember how much time i spent on them really. The pasta one took longer time though, and still turned out worse ^^

A colour study from a MMA photo. Took a lot of time to pick the right colours of this one. My lack of colour study if obvious. Need to do more of these

Some quick hand doodles and a grayscale.
The girl was going to be a speedie at first but a friend dropped the "honey..."-line and I just had to render it a bit more hehe.
Maybe I'll add colour to this later..dunno.

I liked your spiky monster, does he have a face or is it solid rock?

Your hand studies are looking pretty good, but I think your squiggly shading is hurting these. Try "shading with the form" heres a good example of it:

(not done by me, this example is by this awesome dude Kevin O'Neill.)

Even the first example in this one looks "neater", but I wouldn't do that as you loose the energy your sketches seem to have. Still attempting to controll your lines may give you something new to focus on while you study, and perhaps reveal things you haven't thought of before.

HandsOnFire: Very helpful critique! Thanks man!
The rock monster does actually have somewhat of a face. two eyes popping out from the rock shards there and a mouth that consists of little tendrils. Can't imagine that it has that many facial expressions though. Maybe like "anger" and "frenzy" but that'll be it.

Found an older scanned doodle btw, where I tried shading with the form. Will definetely focus more on that since i already recieved that critique before regarding my digital stuff.

A friend wanted me to paint him a somewhat realistic female guerilla soldier, so he gave me some guidelines. Did a 5 min scribbly line art sketch in order to trick him that that was going to be the final, sadly, he didn't buy it.. It was fun though.
The grayscale is a WIP of the real one. Time to get started on colours and background ^^

                        Thanks for the motivation Alex!
Here's a one hour speedie, the dodging barbarian of the awkward arm tribe. Like how some of the strokes help create a sense of movement.
Not the coolest design I ever did... Kinda looks like he's pissed because someone threw a wet towel on his back. But that's actually his cloak and he's obviously pissed because of some epic barbarian rage.

Two wips of one of the paintings I'm currently doing. Hopefully I will have time to finish this tomorrow. Shadows, light, rendering and all Feels like this takes extra time because It's fan art I guess..

Undeadartist: Those studies up there are actually from Loomis and Bridgman Will definetly do more of them of course! Can never get enough of them really, especially if one practices digital strokes/traditional lines and lightning at the same time!

Here's another WIP of the Big daddy... this is going so slow. Hopefully I will be spared from hot temperatures and other distractions so I can finish this bastard tomorrow, render it and make is somewhat crisp.

Flipped the image and cropped it, looks better this way I think. Damn... Need to add some more saturated colours too!
