The legs below belong to the girl above, I just ran out of paper. But I still wanted to draw her shoes for some reason.

I don't see this guy very often at the coffee shop, but I like to draw him every time I get the chance. There is an older drawing of him in this old blog post if you want to see.

Last spring I began attending a local portrait painting night, but the group took a long break for the summer. Well, I'm very excited that Monday night portraits has begun again. We had a great model for the first night named Svetta, hopefully we'll have her back again.

These weekly portrait sessions do great things for keeping my painting in practice. There will be more to come...

I totally dig your style, I'm very into quick ballpoint (or whatever) sketches of random people. I always keep wondering why the people I try to draw have to move so much, or have to leave. I really would like to be able to draw full people from life like in one minute..

Back from Illuxcon and a good time was had by all. I met many cool and extraordinarily talented people, saw a ton of great illustration art and a few painting demonstrations. As long as it happens again next year (and I don't see why it wouldn't) I'll be there.
Here are a few things I drew while participating in a little impromptu sketch group in the hotel bar.

For those of you that may know her, this sketch is of Tiffany Prothero, who was also taking part in the sketch group.

As promised here is the next Monday night portrait. Our model was local jazz singer Tish Adams.

The Monday night portrait strikes again! These have been a ton of fun lately and I feel like I've been improving, at least a little. That's always a good thing.

It was one of those nights, I got off to a bad start. I wasn't getting it down fast enough and the feeling of running out of time was only causing me to make hasty mistakes. I thought for sure it was one for the trash pile.
But then, in the last half hour session, determined not to give up, I slapped down paint to fill in the neglected skin tones, painted over misplaced eye lids, smooshed everything around, and ...I think it came out alright. Despite a few minor issues I'm pretty happy with it.

The second tough portrait night in a row. Sitting on the drawing horses they have at portrait night and crouching forward to work on the panel in front of me strains my neck and has given me a few headaches, but this night it was bad. In the second to last session my hands started shaking and I was afraid I might pass out, but I've got that silly determination not to give up on a painting until the time is up. So I pushed through and finished, though not without laying out on the floor to try to relax my neck in the last break.
Definitely not my best, but eh, can't win all the time.
