    Default Rob Rey Sketchbook

    Hey Everyone,
My name is Rob Rey, I live in Providence, Rhode Island. I've been keeping a sketchbook blog for a year and a half, but I know everyone likes to receive information differently so I thought I would post it here too.

Most of my sketching takes place at the local coffee shop...

          And here's a new painting
Ladies in a Pie ... nursery rhyme or fiendish fantasy?
I'm thinking I'll title it 'Four and Twenty'

I had the girls and the pie drawn from the beginning but I had some trouble figuring out what the background was going to be. I eventually decided on the branches because of how they bring out the nest like feeling of the pie, multiplying the different meanings and associations that the viewer can pull out of this.

I should mention since I just started this sketchbook here, if you want to go back further than what is here, there is a whole year and a half of previous sketches and such to look through on my blog

              Very nice!
I admit... there's a very nice flow in your lines, Rob. I think it makes all poses dynamic in a way.

Keep it up, I enjoy seeing these.

i dont think i saw it anywhere, but how long does it take you per sketch? those look like they were fast sketches, but not rushed.

                  Thanks everyone for the comments.
elloi - That's a pretty good description actually, "fast but not rushed," I do these sitting at a coffee shop and I just have fun drawing people there, so I try to get sketches near done before people move or get up, but I don't rush myself. It's hard to say how long they actually take, but depending on the sketch maybe 1-15 minutes.

Ahh your sketches are so nice! You catch peoples characteristics so well without alot of needless detail so it looks really clean and nicely composed.

I really dig how unstiff your characters are here, each one seems to have purpose.
