First off congrats to all the winners and participants in the latest jam
![]() Here are my few ideas to throw in the melting pot: -villain -funny/comical (something to laugh at, or bring a smile to your face) -a universe themed one such as star wars or lord of the rings And as stated before a duet/ fighting piece, or a jam that involved a vehicle/ mount would be fun as well. |

This thread is a great idea!
@Remington: "Teeth and Claws" sounds awesome! I can see a lot of cool bloodthirsty monsters. ![]() @Edrice: "Fantasy pilots, robots, and aliens is always good" Yeah, I second that. This could be combined with hardsurface modeling as Remington suggested. Regarding "Fight scenes, any two characters fighting" -- well.. that sounds great but I think a lot of people only have 2-3 hours (if at all) for modeling in the evening before they have to go to bed. It would be hard for them to model two characters in 4 weeks. Regarding "Taking an old 2d concept, and having a fresh take on it in 3d" and "Redesign a famous character(ie sherlock holmes, batman, robin hood)" -- that`s an interesting idea for sure, but if there`ll be public voting from now on, you should keep in mind that some members might vote for their favorite character just because of the character itself and not because of the modeling. The person who has choosen (for example) Batman or Hulk might get more votes than the person who has chosen a more unknown character. Regarding "Make the most badass character and pose you can possibly come up with" That sounds challenging and it also sounds like a lot of fun .I think the topic should be clearer, though. It`s hard to judge if the participants can create whatever they want. How to compare a princess with a monster? ... That`s impossible, IMO. But I like the idea of the pose. Action please! ![]() I don`t have any good ideas for a topic at the moment but I for one would love to see own character creations and a nice base this time. @Moni-Poroni: About the redesigned characters and so on, I think having a popular character will definitely get you page views on your thread, but I don't think it would make you win. It would definitely be a tie breaker, but between two already awesome models. It's debatable for sure, but there's so many talented guys here that I'd love to see what they can come up with.
About the fighting with characters, you're right 4 weeks is too short, and people would get tired of it it lasted longer. Finally for the bad ass bit, the unclear part is what makes it fun since we can all go in crazy directions. But maybe have sub categories, like weapons, characters, vehicles. So everyone can do what they like doing most and make it epic.(ADMIN yes I'm talking about choosing a winner per category, so we'd need more sponsors, or cheaper prizes) About the other suggestions like doing vehicles and such, I personally hate doing non organic stuff(I do it enough for work) and I would not enter a jam based on that. But I completely understand people who feel the opposite, and are tired of doing organic stuff. So either we can come up with a jam where everyone's happy, or we just let slip a few one's so other can take their kicks. |

Good thread!!
I feel kinda the same as dmitrij. is it a modeling contest or a still contest.? If its a still contest anything goes. but if its just modeling some restrictions should be applied. So my suggestion would be for the judgeing to be done only clay renders from modeling software (zbrush,mudbox...). After winners are decided you can provide a textured retouched render for display on the website. And if the winner dosent know how to we as a community could work towards that. (that part is a lil utopic but we could at least try) ![]() Theres alot of people who struggle with texture and making a good render and if we let this an option it would weight against them on the voting. Now for suggestion of themes. Undead Historical Figures - "They have been dead for a long time and NOW THEY ARE BACK" lol Fantasy PowerPlayer - "For those who play RPG and love to breach in the rulers to make the most BADASS hard hitting overpowered character" Failed Super Heroes - "Super heroes that First identy is a Loser who lives with his mom" Cartoon into life - "Take a cartoon character and transform into real, like pitchpuck did with Mr. Burns" these are some of the top of my head Ill give more thought and drop some more ![]() |

I don't really understand the issue, if you look at the winners, only one is textured, had it been untextured it think he would have still won. IMO it's a 3d challenge, that should take in consideration everything you can do in 3d. If you accept sculpting, which is very different from modeling, I don't understand why texturing bothers you. But I agree that there should be an obligatory clay render and turnaround, and not just a beauty shot.
The only real purpose of these contests is to blow off some steam and honing your skills, let's keep things light headed. |
