Lightbulb How to attach images to forum posts and thread thumbnails

This is a general guide to 1) attach images to your posts and 2) setting up thread thumbnails for your threads.

How do I attach images to my thread?
The best way to attach images is to upload them directly using the Attachment Manager. This ensures that your images will live on CGHub.com and not become broken links a week or a month from now. Linking images from external sites using the img tag is discouraged so that we can ensure threads remain intact over time.

When you start a new thread, click "Manage Attachments".
A new window pops up. Browse to the location of the image you want to upload, and when you are done click "upload".

    Name: 1.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 212.5 KB

    Name: 2.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 204.2 KB

Now that the images are attached, how do I insert them into the thread?
To insert your images into your thread, you have 2 options. Using the attach bbcode or the img bbcode.

Inserting images using the Attach method
    1) Click the green paperclip icon and select the attachments you want to insert. (Alternatively you can click "insert all" to quickly post all attachments)

The BBcode should look like this:

    HTML Code:
    [ATTACH]11180[/ATTACH]
    Name: 3.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 79.6 KB

    Name: 4.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 156.1 KB

    Name: 5.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 70.0 KB

    Name: 6.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 131.9 KB

Inserting images using the img method
    2) You can copy the link location of the attachment and then click the insert image button and insert the url with the img tags. If your image is extra large, it is recommended to use this option so your images are re-sized to fit the page width.
*However, we highly recommend using the Attachment Manager to ensure there are no broken links and your images will always appear on CGHub.

How do I get a thumbnail to show up on my thread?

Attach an image to your first post in your thread and you should get a thread thumbnail. If you wish to change your thread thumbnail, delete the first attached image of the first post and upload a new one at any time to change it.

Note: If you attach an image but do not insert it in your post by using attach, it will show up as a thumbnail at the bottom of your post. We would encourage users to insert the image so that when others browse your thread they don't have to click on every thumbnail to see the full image.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need help!

admin what do I need to do to optimize the way my images are viewed in CGHUB? My images are much more saturated, and have better values before I upload them, how can I improve this?

        Hi BeardNick,

It sounds like you may have an embeded color profile mis-match between photoshop and viewing web images.

If you are using Photoshop, try using "Save for web & devices" when you save out your images, and use jpg with a setting around 70-80%, uncheck "Embed color profile" and check "convert to sRGB.

This should give you a good representation of your color settings. Let us know if you are still having problems after trying this method of saving your images. Good luck!

Thank you for breaking-down the process. Everything and everyone involved with this site is incredibly helpful.

Is there a way to link to images in our gallery? Or do we have to double-post the files to your servers?

Generally, attachment manager is preferred (the double post method I guess). Let me try something, though.

The answer to "Is it possible ... " is yes. I did this by right clicking on a gallery image and copying image location. I then pasted that address into this post between these tags [IMG][/IMG] and the image appears.

So obvious, yet I overcomplicated it by considering it hotlinking in a sense. A very silly sense. Thank you kindly Arttorney!

im wanting to start a sketchbook, but when i use the attachment manager the images upload huge, so only the corner is seen its that big. is there anyway to upload so the images fit to the screen? or do i just have to make my images really small everytime i upload them?
Not sure if this has already been covered,
Thanks for any help in advance.

@beaulamb...It's always good to upload small size images and that it should be less than 500kb..(Advised)
When you are browsing a Sketchbook of someone, you always prefer it to load up fast and not take minutes to load up.So to keep that in mind and attract a large number of people to visit your SB you need to keep down the quality and size so that it loads up fast and not waste someone's time just to scroll down the page.
There is an auto resize feature which adjusts the size according to the viewer as well.

In forum posts, image size should be less than 500kb..
And regarding the resize feature, it's an automatic feature and when you see a high-res image then you see a "zoom-in mouse pointer" when you hover over the image.
It could be a browser problem as well..Try Chrome!
I have sent a PM to a respective link and just check if you see your mouse pointer change to magnifying glass kind of pointer!

Okay so I'm currently working on my Forum and this is exactly what I am trying to achieve!!! If the OP could tell me how he/she achieved this or what line of code you had to put in to allow for attachment images to show up in the recent threads preview that would be AWESOME!!! Thanks in advance :-)
