    Default Pixelherders Art Pile

    New year, new sketchbook!

    I mainly update my blog > http://pixelherding.blogspot.com/
but thought it couldn't hurt to try and participate in the cghub community - i've been lurking for long enough!

So to start of 2010 here's a couple of pieces i've just done - both were based on fairly random sketches that i'd done in my sketchpad, that i thought would look ok taken a bit further

the first one is the result of a night's insomnia, it's not terribly polished but it'll do for now

    MeltDown

And the second is more inspired by things around me and had a bit more attention lavished on it!

    Eh,Mate

And thats it, crits and comments always welcome!

thought i'd spend some time today wrestling with traditional media - graphite sticks were todays weapons of choice, clumsily wielded versus a photo reference pic.

The main goal with this was trying to achieve more sophisticated form and tonal variation than i usually manage - it's certainly better than my last attempt, but still no masterpiece

the drawing's a bit off, but practice makes perfect!

Great drawings so far, keep trying, im thinking that the photo/scan of your last piece is better on real life

trying to brush up on basic drawing skills by doing plenty of studies, ideally i'd also like to improve my rendering skills with pencil and graphite - i used to be pretty decent with them *shakes fist at photoshop*
Ultimately i'd like to progress to painting of some sort, but seems like a terrifying and distant prospect...

            And some miscellaneous speedpaints and what-not;

            SpellBound!

            (yes, i am jealous)

And this one's a work in progress for a personal project!

and that pretty much wraps things up for now!

typical - thats the drawing that took the least amount of time

and i agree with your comment - birds are great!

another crazy saturday night - yup, photo study time!

i was trying to achieve a less rigid finish that i sometimes get doing this sort of thing - maybe thats why the basic drawing and colour is so shonky. You live and learn!

there's just something about feathers and birds i've been drawn to lately! i think some of it was sparked by some stuff i was reading about irish myths and legends, and other stuff inspired by some of the artists i've seen on cghub.

Very nice paintings here, really like those still lifes, both the digital and pencil ones.
