Default WIP - Deliverator Short Film

This is the official 3D production thread for “The Deliverator” — a CG short film based on excerpts from Neal Stephensen’s Snow Crash. In this thread I'll be posting models, test renders, and production stills for the project as we go forward.

    What is the Deliverator Project?

“Deliverator” will be a high-speed, high-thrills, high-stakes race through a futuristic cityscape. Fast cars! Robot Hover Police! Explosions! Pizza Delivery!

    … pizza delivery?

The Deliverator is a pizza-wielding member of an elite order, a hallowed sub-category. He stands tall, your pizza pie delivered in thirty minutes or less or you can:

    • Shoot the driver

    • Take his car

    • File a class-action lawsuit

If the client doesn't kill the deliverator for a late pizza, then his boss, Uncle Enzo, definitely will.

This is America, after all. You deserve a hot pizza along with Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

When our hero finds himself with a twenty-minute old pizza and fifteen miles to go, can he make his delivery to save his life?

    I guess we’ll find out.

We're neck deep in pre-production, part of which is to develop a suite of MEL tools to use creating a huge city-scape.

These images were created by Ken Kanipe (http://www.kenkanipe.com) using a very early version of my MEL tool, called "KludgeCity", and a tool called QTown, found here.

I will be providing Kludge (free of charge, of course) as soon as it is a little more polished. I started learning MEL about a month ago, and thus far it's worked out pretty well.

More information will be posted on Kludge and KludgeCity here as the project continues.

We're currently also working on developing a final film treatment and proxy sets for our animatic pass. We may not have much to post here in the way of models for a while, but whenever we do a test like this, I'll make sure to put it up.

Wow, that's massive! Will you detail every single building and street? If so, good luck with that! - Must have some serious patience and I can't imagine rendering that thing...

Haha! I saw "Deliverator" as my browser was about to switch to a link I had just clicked.. and I raced to click it.

Snow Crash is my favorite book!

Looking forward to following this thread!

In case you're curious, I also have a thread started for the concept art of the project, which you can find here.
