      I am going to have a go on this one!
      Here is my current wip.
      Name:  Royal Scythe WIp1.jpg
Views: 0
Size:  392.9 KB

      I am having a hard time rendering the skin on the Scythe, I am going for something similar to a horse I think. Still have to clean up most of the image and soften parts of it.
      Crits and comments are much appreciated!

      There is already some awesome entries so far. I'll try to comment a bit on some of them, although please take my comments with a grain of salt.

      @pest3r
      That is looking so cool. I really like your style I do not think I can contribute with anything useful, you are doing a great job.

      @Scorge
      Amazing entry, you have done a really good job on the rendering and colors. My only concern regarding the design would be if the creature can walk without the center of gravity being out in the front, outside the frontlegs? The chest, neck and head area seems quite big compared to the back part. I may be wrong tho

      @project_Zero
      Looks interesting, maybe you can use velociraptor anatomy as reference? If I were you, I would try to bring either the blue, purple or yellow color out even more, the grey seems a bit dull compared to those!

      @oni
      I really like your line drawing! Cool idea and setup, I am looking forward to the next step of your coloring

      @dothaithanh
      I looks quite promising. Since it is still quite rough I will not comment too much on it. Only thing I will say is to maybe watch out for the cool whites, yellows and greys that is going on in the background. I think you can easily bring more forrest colors into the background Besides that, I am looking forward to the update!

      @CrimzonHaze
      I like your idea! The perspective and composition seems to be a bit unusual, it may just be me, but I don't know. I think I would try to "zoom" out a little bit. Not necessarily making the creature smaller, but try to get some of the background into the picture as well. I also think some contrast between the foreground, middleground and background could help the image. Normally, the closer to the camera an object is, the darker it is.

      @SuperJMan
      I like the idea about having the creature to rest in the trees. If I understand it correctly, the creature is four legged right? The left back leg can be interpreted as a third leg in the middle at first glance, I do not know if that is a problem you want to fix. I think it is mostly a matter of shadows. Besides this, considered it climbs trees, I would probably add some more flexible claws/fangs/paws or something. It does however work quite good without it, so it is up to you. Looking forward to your update!

      @GDG
      I can not really make out what that is yet, something similar to a swordfish? I will be looking forward to the next update.

      @Krasgar
      That is some crazy saturation you have going on. I like your scythe tho! It has some really cool elements. My only two cents would be to eliminate some of the black in the back part of the creature and image. The contrast seems a bit high right now. The other thing is regarding the stone. Your creature seems to be in something close to a 3/4 view, where as your stone appears to be almost a topview. Since a stone can have pretty much any form it isn't necessarily a mistake, but I think it would seem more natural if you erased the stone behind the scythe, making it more flat. Does it make sense? I hope so, but please do not take my advice too serious, I am far from being a pro and may be wrong I will look forward to your update!

      @mayanew
      It is a great idea to use thumbnails in the beginning. I think you could make your silhouettes pop even more by making the background a lighter grey. Besides that, I would say 1 looks the most interesting of the once you have developed a bit further. I do think however, that number 7 is the most promising. If you want my advice, I would develop that one

      @fabianguiza
      The design of your scythe is really cool! Make sure to look up giraffe and horse reference when rendering out and detailing the anatomy. Right know it appears a bit flat, but I am looking forward to a version with a lightsource and some depth

      @Daitengu
      I like your reference sheet It looks quite similar to what I began with! Your initial sketch also looks really promising I am looking forward to see which colors and environment you choose.

      @Gobsmacked
      It seems like you have some interesting shapes going on, but your image is huge and it is difficult to see what is going on in it. When posting Wip's it may be a good idea to downsize your pics to about 800-900px wide. It makes it possible to see all of it in the thread.

      @LeaoSenzala
      I like you sketch. It does seem like the beak is coherent with the head, as in the skull is bare. If that is physical possible it is a cool idea I am looking forward to a color version!

      @evilevoix
      Great idea. It looks kinda cute! Does it have 4 purple eyes? Regarding the picture size, downsizing to a maximum of 800-900px wide may help when posting in the forums.

        Great job so far folks. This is my first challenge (wasn't able to finish the last one). I decided to go for a omnivorous mammalian creature.

        Here it is so far.

          @andreasbech: I actually used my toy (and highly detailed) Allosaurus as a skin ref . Thanks for the feedback I made the colors a little bit more pronounced in this wip version. Great start on your WIP too . Looking forward to more.

          @Scorge: Grats on finishing .

          I put more work into shadows and values and some coloring. Not happy with the wrinkles right now. I'll probably have to make them a little more visible.

            I really like the overall anatomy, the only small crit i have is that the beak doesn't read well as a beak, it comes off more like the rest of the body.

            Thank you very much for the comment. I agree - going back to see if I can get that to read more like a beak.

                I hope the beak reads a bit better now.

                Here is my creature so far. I have a lot to learn so any input welcome
