rsantiago: This is awesome! Great creature. Great render. How did you do the final render? Straight out of zbrush/mudbox or was is brought back to maya/max with displacement? I've always wanted to know how to compose a good render. Once again, great work. Congrats!
The model was brought back into 3d max but I didn't use displacement maps. I ran Zbrush's Decimation Master on it and took it from 12 plus million polygons to around 6 million. I masked off the front and kept most of the highlevel detail visible for the render. I knew the viewer wouldn't get a shot from the back angle so I optimized that quite heavily. I then set up my lighting and did a few render passes in 3d Max, after which I assembled them in Photoshop and added post and color correction.
onelung: Great finish man! really dig that arm... the gewy stretch and drips really finsihes the piece off nicely.
