So, I'll start with some recent things...

This is a study that took me way too many hours to count... drawing and redrawing, again and again... the time between step 1 and 6 is 5 months :|

        Hi there!

5 months on a single painting? Wow lol, that's amazing! I honestly wouldn't have that much dedication myself - I always seem to get bored or impatient after the first couple of hours on one drawing, so I think it's pretty incredible. The painting itself really does look like a lot of effort is put into it, especially the hair.

I like your quick studies too! You seem to have a really good grasp of facial features. Hope you'll keep churning out the good stuff! All the best!

try to work with bigger shapes, spend more times on the bigger shapes then details .. how big is the head how far from the shoulders etc.. then try to divide the head in the major planes . watch loomis anatomy books for this.

                keep it up!

                  Hello!

Thank you all for the kind words! And Cebola, I'm really happy I inspired you to study portraits - hope you've found good resources

MarcSampson, thank you for the feedback! I haven't done those kinds of studies in a while, they used to be so much fun - I'll try some digitally as soon as I find the time

Here's a quick study of on of the official stills of The Hobbit - I've never dealt with so many shades of blue before, definitely a great experience(... and with a lot of color picking ). I'll try and do more of those, movieas have such interesting lighting

Cool man. I like your photo studies; the one in your first has nice colors. For the turnaround studies though, you seem to lack confidence in your pencil strokes. Try to draw your lines with one, paitent stroke. Even if you feel you want the swiftness of a fast, quick stroke. This video from marko djurdjevic really helped me - marko djurdjevic and line quality

                        Thank you Izene!

And vatteh, thank you for the feedback! The video is very educating, definitely made me think about the way I draw The turnaround studies are digital, so I don't know how that technique will work with a tablet, but I'll definitely try it traditionally; I've always preferred very soft pencils and charcoal when drawing and my lines turned out quite sketchy, heh, but I recently tried to challenge myself and bought a sketchbook with smooth paper and started doing studies with a mechanical pencil to try and get more detail in the lines and everything and it was a big change it style. I'll sit down and draw some more these days and will try to mix what I learned then with what the video talks about and we'll see what happens

Heh I have a whole folder of psd's which have lifespans of years, kudos on sticking with your portrait, the rendering of the hair is really cool.

Hobbit study is progressing nicely, its good to see you rendering skin in unusual lighting circumstances, you could try a predominantly warm study next to mix it up. Keep it up yo.
