When the creature steps on the ground it creates a sonar wave that it uses as echo locator to find it's way around.

it can detect living matter by using it's bioluminescent glowing spines on it's back. they detect heat signatures in the objects near it.

the cancri finds nourishment by burrowing into the ground and sucking out any liquid fossil fuels it can find. it has a tongue that can funnel out any moisture trapped within the rocks underground.

A lot of cool entries so far. Hope one day I'll be able to think in values like you guys... so far it seems the more elements I add, the more my canvas tends towards a completely white page.
Hope things will look better when I start to render the crystals.

I'm also kinda getting lost trying to get the perspective right. Still, have been learning a lot with this challenge

Here's my first attempt at doing a challenge on CGHUB, I'm hoping to learn a lot and have some fun!

So for my designs, I'm thinking of him as a sort of land whale, filtering through the dense soil for small organisms or minerals it can eat. Having the creature have six limbs was challenging because I think, under the extreme pressures of the planet, the best method of locomotion would be something like a slug or octopus. Gravity would also be an issue, so he would need to have thick, tree trunk-like legs if he was going to have legs at all. I'm not sure if I'm moving in the right direction, I'll keep at it though.

@GriffGraph: its a good idea to make a design sheet,good job and a nice design

i added more details and colour to my one,in the next step i have to work more on the environment

@htkpeh: your design is very cool I love the whale-ish head, also I was thinking about a big creature who is sifting the sand like a whale

i worked a bit more one mine and added FX and some details,but the design is not final,especially the back is not interesting enough

Quick updating for me too... I've pushed up my creature a little bit

I also changed the point of view to highlight the size! I'm pretty satisfied right now, except for the legs :| I continue to see this creature with thousand of legs... dammit! �:�

I was having a hell of a time trying to work out the values on this guy, so eventually I gave up and decided to do a detailed line drawing instead. It helps me get a better idea of whats going on. Here's the WIP

My first CGhub challenge! Here is my attempt-
its more an anatomical/diagrammatical illustration. The little blue guy is the Parasitic male. He will live in her birthing chamber, feeding on bacteria, parasites and her blood. (an added speculation)
Love to hear and learn from you all!
(changed it to better fit the graphite/crystal planet. because the original read to much like a desert)
