Default Salutations, I am a new fellow

Salutations, fellows and fellets the name's Morris and I'm a 3D kinda guy who enjoys crafting creative characters, usually of the monstrous persuasion.

I heard rumor that this was an alright community and folks were far more open minded here than anywhere else. With that said, I shall post here, converse with you fellows, exchange ideas and see what you think of my wares.....

I don't want to seem like a walking billboard, but
check out my stuff on well....My profile links

With that said and done I've got a topic of interest, what makes an appealing character, game or local game?

As for me, I've always enjoyed titles that are charmingly strange; so bizarre that they cannot be listed as the standard fantasy affair.
i.e. kirby, mario rpg, Rayman and Earthworm Jim

It always seems as though things in standard fantasy titles are either too gritty and serious; or the things I thought looked rather cool were always fighting for evil and protagonist were human ideals or really tough looking dudes.

Standard Muscular fellows and beautiful babes (as well as beautiful fellows) just don't seem to appeal to me, no sir. They are too ideal, it seems to me that they set unrealistic standards for people about and lead to "me" characters; that is no good.

What appeals to me is an off beat hero or someone who has a plethora of strange techniques, one who doesn't appear charming, one who always tries their hardest in a comical manner, or perhaps one unique special techniques that grow with progression.

I am a fan of odd locals such as the bean kingdom in Mario Super Star Saga or perhaps that frozen area Rayman origins; just strange areas that make one really wonder what the designers were thinking.

I've said quite a bit, I want to hear more about what you all think about this.
I'm always full of topics and willing to talk your ear off .

Welcome, and Salutations. Have some tea and crumpets and enjoy the site.

For me there are multiple characters that appeal to me. I as well enjoy the strange characters like Rayman or Earthworm Jim. I also enjoy ridiculous characters. But for immersion into a game I need a character that is believeable. Movies and games tend to follow rigid Archetypes for characters. I enjoy seeing many sides to the same character expressed through a wide range of scenarios. A game that I think pulled this off nicely was Final Fantasy 6. Seeing how a gritty, dark, mysterious character would react in a comedic situation helps to make that character more of a real person, in the same way that seeing a joke telling, prank pulling character would react in a devastating circumstance helps us to understand that character.

Sorry, that was a little longer than I was hoping for. Anyway, welcome to the site! We're glad to have you.

          Sounds like we have similar tastes. I much prefer the goofy, oddball, unlikey hero. Or anything that is a little out the ordinary. Some of my faves are;

Most of the cast of the Terry Pratchett novels (check out the artist Paul Kidby for pics).
          Mario,
          The Muppets,
Capt Quark from Ratchet & Clank,
          Clank is pretty ace too,
          Viewtiful Joe,
Wario makes a great lead character too

aaaand I'm sure there's more but my brain isn't working today.

I checked your links & your work is pretty cool. Vibrant colours, interesting shapes, dynamic lines and cool character design. I'll be interested to see where your work goes. Have you tried making a sketchbook thread yet? I find it pretty helpful when trying to improve.

Welcome to the community & I hope you enjoy your stay

Indeed, it's good find like minds on this site, it seems as though many people nowadays are all about the
grit and often discourage people from making strange characters online.

As for a sketchbook, I did post one, however it seems as though the tumblr account I created serves the same purpose , I am not sure how much the sketchbook will help as much as conversing with those in the community and collaborating and concepting interesting ideas with them. it seems as though I have been rather detached since school ended.
