I'm doing a void queen rendition of the great fairy from the Windwaker. I figured I would use inspiration from space as if she could grant a wish from Link with a special item, whenever he witnesses a specific shooting star.

These are just rough sketches. Getting use to the feel of her and what she looks like for now. Will do more sketches and evolve from here!

I changed my mind and tried to do a Link in an armor. I couldn't decided whether it to be a combat droid or just an armor. This is still wip.

@Ewaldus - you could always add a faerie over his shoulder, like your version of Navi from Ocarina of Time. Other than that, I dig your sketch.

Hello everyone!

Zelda is one of my favorite games. When I was 9 or so I spent all my evenings playing OoT with my friends, and... Oh men, this game makes me shiver. So, here's is my Link, in a tribal-manly-HighFantasy-Skyrim-medieval version.



Bows are the weapon of 2012, so I imagine a more archery link, maybe third person in the woods where you can point and shoot with your Wiimote or something like this. Navi (Hey! Listen!) is very important cause in the darkness, enemies are enlightened by her light. When I was thinking about this mechanics, an image came to my head, so I draw it too:



Can I post this two images in the final thread? Oh, maybe even three, cause the shield is now a bag pack!

I'm going for a futuristic duo, Zelda and her robot sidekick. Zelda would be a kind of bounty hunter.
This is current step, i will still refine it depending on errors i find and the feedback i get.
First I'll push her white dress back because it's disturbing.


First time participating in a cghub challenge, I don't know if one can critique others' entries freely, I'll try:

Cyberlink2 nice quality to your drawing. Looking at the latest version, I think you don't push your blacks, communicate volume enough.
Ewaldus I think that the top left character in your first post was more interesting as a concept, the one you chose looks a bit like an ordinary japanese soldier.
Rhazza Does it mean that Zelda is an undead now? Good concept, I like the huge lyre on her back and the whole concept of music as a weapon, and the teachability to Link.
eizOga I like the suit design and the volume quality, you may want to search for a better composition for your image tho.
umpenstiltzkin I like your japan theme, waiting to see your concept
Leklek Your illo looks like you highjacked a statue or a life drawing, it won't look very dynamic.
Voodoo-Mama I don't know the character. Your second post looks good.
parpica Very interesting twists on Link, but so far from the original character i fear he isn't recognizable anymore.

Starexai I don't know this character, waiting for a more detailed concept.
Pertheseus Your renditions of western characters are good but you may wander too far away from Zelda the game, as Link has no more hallmarks except for the game's logo. Same issue with your other characters imho.
Garret_AJ I like the energy weapon concept, i don't understand what's the little sphere hovering tho.
Metatronic Maybe you're trying too much to stick to your reference, you may want to deconstruct the original chinese statue, and reconstruct it for your character design. Even better with another pose. Ganon is not easily recognizable there.
Mario Manzanares Great concepts, great drawings. Very sensitive and lively pose. I haven't played the Zelda games much but your archery fps idea sounds cool.

@Lauris : I like your duo the composition and characters but i prefer Zelda with her dress even if the pants under it is not necessary i think. The way you have build up your picture is interesting to me, how many time did you take to go there ? (what will the background be like ?)

@Ewaldus – nice, bigger hair works well too. I dig the new shoulder pads and crest as well. Are you going to have time for the bg? I like the stylized look of your drawing do you think you will loose much when you color/paint over it?

@MarioManzanares – nice, really reminds me of the Fable video game series. Don’t let him get too ‘Fabio’ though with that hair! Lol, put some twigs in it or something! Looks good though man.

@Metatronic – ooh I do like the Chinese demon version of Ganon. Same face (but simplified) was used for Prince Zuko’s mask in the avatar cartoon. You should throw in some cool Chinese architecture, maybe like a rooftop for him to stand on.

@Lauris – I like the triangle composition. Kinda looks like you’re sneaking the tri-force in subliminally.

@Garret_AJ – I like the ‘light sword/sheild’. Wish you had more time to add more details!

There are lots of cool ideas coming out of this challenge. Good job people!

@Vliir – Sorry I missed you man. Your Link really reminds me of Shaco from League of Legends. Hes cool, but kind of sinister looking as well. That would be a cool twist on the story, if Link wasn’t such a goody-good.
