Hello everyone, I was wondering how good the new Macbook Pro with Retina display was in comparison to the non-retina display version? Is it even worth getting a such a small laptop with such a large resolution?

Also, how do Mac screens compare to most PC laptop screens? I was once told that Macs have better color range.

If you are talking about display, it's got the best display in any notebook available in the market!

-The new MBP is packed with IPS panel(earlier versions were TN panel based and had issues like color distortions and viewing angle problems).

-Retina Aware content is crisp and amazing looking but 3rd party content will take time to be as crisp as the earlier because of the amount of pixels present(massive 2880x1800).
example:-Aperture, iMovie, Final Cut Pro X,Safari or most other Apple applications will look crisp but apps like Chrome will have the jagged edges! Also heard that Adobe(PS) is releasing an update for Retina Aware but is not out)

-One of the best designs in the market,Thin and is finally upgraded it to USB3 and of course the thunderbolt ports

-Benchmarks are okay but not exceptional in comparison with similar kind of products with a good battery life.

-Soldering the RAM to the computer and that too in a professional machine is very stupid and smart step.(Smart because You will have to shell out more for an upgrade from Apple)

- Flash storage is good but 256GB Are you kidding!
It's a pro machine!

Finally, if you need to only see pictures and more pictures and some more pictures than go and buy this thing!You will not regret it.
But Very very expensive and you can get better performing notebooks at very less price in comparison to this.
Increased costs for repair and battery replacement along with only few applications ready for Retina at this time.

Now Apple machines are more for general users that pros and always have a unique thing(USP) to sell(in this case retina display)!

Yeah, I totally agree that it's stupid how unupgradeable they made this thing. The lack of a DVD drive also REALLY bothers me.
But you said there were better, cheaper options available right? Could you maybe suggest one? I've been nervous about a lot of the other brands of laptops that I've been looking at since they almost never tell you how good their screens are...

I said "you can get better performing notebooks" but not better displays
There are few good laptops in the market from AVA direct Clevo, EuroCom, ASUS(Rog), etc
And specific one which I recommend would be
Clevo P270WM
Asus G75VW
Even Samsung Series 7 and AlienWare are amazing!
But the best display goes to Apple

Just got a new one to add that looks promising
