Challengers! Hereth lie the rules for this round's challenge! Make sure to read them entirely!

Objectives

On this challenge, we will do some studies on foreshortening!

Foreshortening is when an object appears to be receding into the distance or coming straight out at you.
When something gets foreshortened, proportion is skewed and the size of the object is distorted to make the object appear closer to you.
Foreshortening can be remembered easily by its descriptive nature because whether an arm or leg extends backwards or forwards it appears to be shorter than its actual dimensions.
Another rule of thumb goes as follows: part(s) of the figure closest to the viewer should be drawn larger, almost exaggeratedly so. Also, a common technique for drawing the foreshortened figure is to incorporate greater definition and detailing to the foreground while leaving the middle and background sketchier.

Rules and Requirements

- Challengers are required to show their WIP and Reference Materials. These challenges are an opportunity for all of us to make contact with other artists and be a part of a growing community and it would be unfair for the artists who are making an effort to share their work and ideas if you are allowed to enter the finals without participating in the WIP thread.
- Challengers are to paint an example of foreshortening. You are free to use any kind of image or subject, as long as you use foreshortening as your main study.

- Here are a couple reference images and some links of interest:

It's not necessary to show musculature or bone. You can do whatever you want as long as you apply foreshortening to your final. Yea, you can go from imagination or use photographs as reference

Fun challenge idea I'm thinking of doing fantasy style character with a hand and weapon extended out toward the viewer for the foreshortening effect. I'll have some sketches soon hopefully.

@Aims: Great action pose, the foreshortening looks great so far, the perspective and the action will make this a very interesting entry!

@MadJawS: Love those sketches, the hulk smash guy with the arms raised is freaking awesome, the catwoman is nice, too. I cannot decide which one I like best!

WIP... tried to fill up with bold patches... will go for detailing and maybe colouring.

                    Default Quick Question

I was wondering if we could use a live model reference?

I have sketches from last weekend when I saw this challenge and asked for some foreshortening poses. Unfortunately since it's a workshop we're not allowed to take pictures (which is appropriate).

I really want to participate in this challenge (finally got some free time, woot!). If not I've got some ideas either way

                    Thanks!

Of course! This challenge is pretty much open, you are free to paint whatever you like, as long as you apply foreshortening
