Role: Female Space Brigand, Captain of Terra Class 20-man space sloop named "The Red Gypsy"

Age: 30-40

Era: Futuristic, Earth-Based Space Age
World/Setting: An Earth of the distant future that has seen the human race spread out into the stars. Earth in the far, far future is nothing but a backwater hub in the human galactic sphere. Brigand Ships, Cutthroats, Army supply ships, and gargantuan tankers from all over the galaxy fill the solar system.
Tools / Artifacts / Equipment / Weapons: Variable. Think of interesting pirate-inspired objects given a space-age twist.

Clothing / Dress: Space-age pirate- really open to interpretation. Clothing will go a long way helping you express she is a pirate from the future.
Physical Characteristics
Height: 5'6-5'8
Stature: Bodacious and in shape. Hey...She didn't become a pirate captain just by looking pretty!
Hair: Variable
Eyes: Variable

Personality: Pira Tess is a true product of the hard life of living in space. Extremely intelligent and crafty, she has a knack of getting what she wants.
Characteristics/Traits: Scrappy, resourceful, and witty, she used her skills to get ahead in the game, finally becoming the unquestioned captain of one of the largest pirate operations vessels in the Solar System. Her crew loves her, and enemies don't live long enough to hate her.

BACKGROUND NOTES:
Fans of Scifi and swashbuckling, this is for you. Come up with a cohesive character design of a space-age pirate. Attached are some idea pictures: how can you mix and match the two styles? You can do anything from gritty realism to campy. Try googling images from Firefly, Pirates of the Carribean, renfaires, and any of your favorite space movies.

hopefully i can finish this one.

trying to paint more opaquely, actually select values rather than relying on opacity. quite difficult!!!!

I'm going for functionality over style. Having working in a hazardous environment made me feel that if I were in space I would likely wear a fire-retardant air-tight jumpsuit to prevent injury or death to either an on-board explosion or being sucked out of a hull breach. With the gear I was thinking on adaptations of what Somali pirates use to board cargo ships. What do you guys think so far?

Phantom S- I do like your idea about incorporating references from the stuff you are lookin at, the design seems solid..and the tattoos./great idea...good work.
Walker- sweet work..cant wait to see it finished..
Ghostbrush- awesome energy and sweet color palette, the colors are bitchin. It has a very warm feeling...maybe some fire and smoke back there?

This is an interesting challenge theme!
I tried make some sketches. Still not sure I will go with it. Also still used a skull for her head.
