Default Help me to learn better anatomy or better how to start

Hey guys, i finally finished my exams, took my laptop, and fly it out in Croatia to rest a bit, and also to practice modeling.

While i was modeling in max, i am learning hard surface techniques from Warwick or whatever was the guy from Vimeo.

I was wondering, how is the best way to learn anatomy, human and creature and apply that in 3D? As far as found some learning anatomy is, Riven Phoenix, and Visularium courses, but damn, Ryan needs to lower the price, i can't really pay that much.

Other thing i don;t understand is, how from 2D to apply in 3D? I have seen some guys from youtube, they start from just a zsphere in Zbrush, and make awesome creature or human in Zbrush, that's look exactly from the 2D, even better, with detail son him etc.

Should i start to learn how to draw human let's say in Photoshop, because i prefer that way, than drawing on paper.

I just need the best approach for starting to draw and to learn anatomy.
I found some drawing/sculpting anatomy sites like Riven Phoenix videos, ( Vlippu ), Visularium, site like this http://www.drawing-tutorials-online...ducts/index.cfm

And the Last there are 2 courses from Scott Eaton, Anatomy and Zbrush course, i really want to take them, so i can learn anatomy fist , and then i want to sculpt that in Zbrush.

I think learning 2D anatomy will still be seriously helpful if there aren't many 3D anatomy tutorials around.

Ive never done 3D anatomy but I'm assuming that the techniques used by 2D artist could probably be transferred straight across. 2D artists learn anatomy by breaking the figure down into its simplest shapes (boxes and cylinders etc) and then from there build the anatomy on top of it.

So once you've learnt how to do that on paper I'm sure youll be able to do the same thing on a 3D program.

          HOPE THAT MADE SENSE!

Zbrush is the best sculpture and painting tool.Because ZBrush software can be said to be the world's first let artists can be acquired on creation of 3 D design tools.

              Hi guys,

nylelevi is totally right, before starting modeling/sculpting characters in 3Ds max/Zbrush you need to have some solid foundations in anatomy.

When you watched people in youtube sculpting with simple Zspheres or any 3D primitives, there are a lot hard work behind ! It's training, like people said " training makes perfect" you have to practice again and over again.

You can start to learn anatomy in Photoshop (or traditionnal) , to do some head studies or even body parts ( muscles, bones, arms, legs, Upper body ...) can help a lot to understand shapes, structures and so on and so forth. After that, you can try to sculpt in Zbrush

Another exercice you can do when you'll be more comfortable with 3D software/Zbrush is to make a model sheet ( realistic or cartoony character) and model it in 3Ds max ( or any 3D applications of your choice) for your standard base mesh and add details in Zbrush. A good exercice to apply your 2D concept in 3D.

But firstly, you have to draw draw draw !! Good luck hope, I could help you !

PS: sorry for my poor english haha

So first draw draw draw, the sculpt sculpt in Zbrush?

Yea i can do that. I will start in Photoshop, because i don't have art schools here where i live.

So, how long does it takes, for person to get some proper foundation in human anatomy, bones, muscles, how the muscles works etc?

Mostly when i see someone sculpt in Zbrush, from concept art, i don't really understand how you get the likeness in 2D to 3D?

Should i while drawing in Photoshop, to spent some time in Zbrush, and to try to sculpt for example the skull from 2D to 3D?

How should i start to learn anatomy?
Should i first start from the human skeleton, from skull to way down, try to draw it, then sculpt it in Zbrush, then to draw the muscles etc etc?

Firstly, yeah you have to draw A LOT, foundations are very important. The Zbrush part comes, in my opinion, when you'll more confident on your drawing skills.

Take some references anatomy, observe, try to understand the shapes etc. References, Patience, and motivation are essential ! So be strong

Okey then, i will draw like hell, when i go back home.
But how do i enjoy while drawing? Some times ago i tried, but because i sucked when i was young, i decide it not to do.

Dunno but i see Zbrush more fun than drawing on paper or even Photoshop.

Yea i took some reference pictures, in every pose, but to be honest i have no idea nothing of this.

If you're telling yourself " I don't draw very well so I can't do it" you'll be disappointed. To draw can be fun but it's also the hard part, it's really important to tell yourself " I can do it", it's a way of thinking, motivation !

I knew some classmates who draw not well and every days, they praticed again and again and again. Later, they are more confident and understand how to sculpt in Zbrush because they understand how the subject, shapes works in 2D.
