    Default Old Man portrait

    Hi everyone.
I'm new to this site, and this is my first post here. So, it could be kind of an introduction.
Here's a model I've done a few time ago, but it has never really been finished in the way it was intended to be.
I decided to get back to it and try and render this with the new sss2 from mental Ray.

I'm planning on redoing a few things in the modelling and texturing.
Of course I'll give him hairs for the final composition, and I've not worked on the pullover shader for now, just testing the sss.

The image with hair is the previous version, the other 2 are the those with the shader I'm working on right now.

I've completely redone the fine bump.
Worked on the modelling of some areas such as lower eyelids and mouth (still some work to do there by the way)
I've also worked on the diffuse texture, still, no photo projection used, I want to try to avoid this and paint his skin from scratch.

What more to say ...Just shift this to the Finished section!
I love this as it is but i know you want the texture to enhance more!
      nothing more to say

Thanks for the kind words Zentrope, but yes, as you said, I want to enhance textures (and the shader too) a bit more.
I also plan on refining the sculpt, then give him hair, eyebrows and beard, and maybe then I will call it finished.

          Here's an update.
I've worked a bit on almost everything, fine sculpt, bump and of course diffuse.
I think the shader is OK now, but I plan on refining the wrinkles and some other modelling details.

Hair and eyebrows were roughly added in post, taken from a photo, just to see where it's going.

There is some very good detail in and around the eyes. I'm impressed!

Thank you guys for your positive feedback. I don't have much time to work on personal projects right now, but hopefully I'll soon get back to this portrait.

                  its beautiful.

could you make the eyes more "gooey" (ie stronger spec per gloss)?

Not sure if you mentioned it, which SSS shader is this, specifically? If it isnt... well.... more "wow's" deserved

                    Thanks Ravanna.
Yes, there's definitely some more work to put into the eyes, you're right.
The render is done in 3ds max and mental ray and the skin shader is the new mental ray sss2 shader. You have to unhide it in order to be able to use it, it's in max 2013, but hidden in the first place.

Long time no post, but here I am back again with this portrait.
This is the first hair test. Though hairs render looks OK imo, compositing and integration are still off... I have to work harder on that.

                          Hi, and thank you !
Hair is done with basic 3ds max hair & fur system, with buffer and scanline render, then composed with the mental ray hairless render of the character in photoshop.

Nice wip, I like where it is heading! Personally, I prefer the previous test renders in term of overall warmer image color.
