@Mario: I agree with Eludor. I think you can push the painting further (especially the highlights) so your shield will really pop.

I know you might feel your shield is common but I get that this is for a younger female, which makes this shape just fine.

@Eludor: I would have chosen #3 too. And okay, you may not be working fast...just faster than me.

I was hoping to be able to post some color versions but I am having problems with computer slow down/crash. I just need to save some stuff off of it. Hopefully I'll get those up soon.

I'm going with #10, it seems the most creative to me and the long ones just seen old lady-ish to me (maybe not 5 so much).

your shield designs look great, though i'm not sure how the person behind it would look like, but i'll guess something like a female warrior with a lot of ornaments... well actually it could be for a fancy dressed woman at a ball.. with a shield . 3,4,10 do really look good.
"I" tend to like bigger shields, but 10 with it's little clipped segment is really interesting.

Well I managed to sneak in a few minutes to do some Silhouettes but I doubt i'll have time to finish (quite busy, just launched a kickstarter project). Just wanted to say everyone has some great stuff and the finals should be good.

Hello everybody !

I wanted to share my sketches and drawings on this challenge with you to get some advices and share tips

This the way i've build up my shied.

1. I've been looking around for the textures i wanted to explore on it.
2. Sketches for the mood and proportions then some tries on the shape to simplify the whole thing.



3. I worked on the shadows and light



4. I had fun on the details



I had a hard time on the feathers... but i like it now

@Eludor You don't really know how much I appreciate the overpaint! Thank you, It makes me see things much clear now. I don't know if I'll have time to retouch my shield before the Monday, but if I do I'll use your overpainting a lot. Now talking about your work, I think your shield would be awesome with a little bit more painterly style, but it is going very good so I don't really have any advice for you (but I would like to help you as much as you have helped me).

Well, by now I'm finishing the concept art of the knight who is going to use my shield. I really would like to show you it in this thread but I don't know if it is against the rules of the chalenge or even if it is quite offtopic (She is the owner of the shield but she is not in the picture of the challenge). So, please @Amaakir, give me green light (or not).

I guess my shield is done too. Every additional stroke would end in an overkill... and I believe I already did a bit too much.

Mario, I would love for you to post your knight. I'm into the whole package.

Here is what I've done so far. I had wanted to put an indication of a warrior women (close crop) holding the shield, but I will not have the time now...I took a rush paying job.

Anyway, did color renditions and tweaks.


Then painted a water-ish background.




And I am currently rendering the final. Still more lots more to do on it.

@Eludor : I think that the ground where your shield lies is too detailed and could be a little bit calmed down to make the shield pop. A few stones and dust are enough to evoke the battlefield but this is my advice and taste ^^
