Default "Gold" Awards declining in selection strictness?

I know that CGHub has always been biased toward commercial production work. Like, if it has a popular company's logo on it or was for a famous movie, it will have a much higher chance of being selected. But, without pointing out specific examples of what I'm talking about, lately it doesn't even seem to have to be good work. It just has to be concept art for something famous. Maybe I'm alone in this opinion but I'm a little disappointed because it seems like the bar has been lowered.

That depends where the quality cut-off point is.
Should only the top 1% of images get an award, or the top 10%? And how is it decided which make it into the top 10% anyway?

This always has and always will be a problem when it comes to any judging of art. Look at the Tuner prize finalists. There's always a big argument every year about work that should or shouldn't be there.
      Everyone has their own opinion.
The funny thing is that looking at my own gallery here, I have 7 gold awards, but I don't agree with which ones were given awards and which were not. I would choose my best images differently than the judges here did.

Default Not talking as a MOD.

I think everyone is biased toward commercial production work, not only CGHUB but every other website.
Commerce is driving everything and marketing is very important to make a game successful. When everyone is talking about something, it ignites the spark of curiosity in the mind of a person to check the details about it. So when they see something related to it(on websites) , you get a publicity as well as the higher number of views which is kind of a Win-Win situation for both the parties. (Website and the Artist)
I know i am talking like Stephen Covey

What is selected is selected by Editors(Pro's and Veterans) and they do a pretty good job there

I agree with SILK that judging of art is very confusing that is why i started What is Art thread and i really appreciate all the different contributors including Silk for giving their opinion.

everyone is different and that is why they have their own opinion..

For example:- I never liked AVATAR but it's still the most successful movie of all time
