Default How to practice the small stuff before the big.

So Ive been putting a ton of practice into my drawing. Ive been told time and time again, not to worry about painting until I get decent with drawing, so thats been most of my time.

As for digital painting, Id like to know little tips and tricks to practice.

For example, Id like to draw really nice skin, so I am thinking of finding some skin tutorials and painting skin on different surfaces (circle, square, cylinder) then move up to limbs and so on.

But thats how Im thinking I would go about it. But I want to know from everyone how you practice your digital painting elements. Like skin, metal, surfaces, items, leather, water, etc.

Any practice tips would help. (ex. Some one would draw 20 pictures of water. Or some one would copy a picture of a nose or anything)
