Default "Summoner of Nature" - now with links to HighRes

Edit: I added links to the high resolution images, if you would like to have a closer look at my character. I hope you do like them?
    Hi,
it is the first time for me posting here. I have been watching and learning from the incredible and amazing works people done here, already for a couple of years, but never had the courage to post myself. But now...

My name is Sebastian Zimmermann and I am working as freelance “Digital Character Artist” and “Traditional Sculptor”. Before that I created character for Crysis 2.

I would like to share with you my latest character creation “Summoner of Nature” which is based on and developed from a concept of a good friend(“Baron”).

In the process of creating this character, I used hairfarm, after effects and vray, created shader, lightning, rendersetup for the very first time, as I only created character for game engines before. Finished ...at last!! fits quite good. I had a lot to learn and still have...

I hope you do enjoy my work. If you would like to see other work of mine(mostly traditional), I would be pleased if you visit my website.

Even the character is done for now, I will appreciate all of your feedback, as it will be helpfull for me to create better work in the future.Thank you for watching!

        Thank you Javiideas,

I did not really composite everything, so I tweaked my render quite a lot and ended up with srgb, zdepth, hairfarm and a fog pass.

I rendered them in higher res then what hey are posted here so...

        for the turnaround
        srgb around 10 min/frame
        hair pass 1 min

for the stills which are rendered in around 4k to 3k

srgb around an hour if I remember right
        hair pass around 2 min
fog did take long around 2 hours

but as I said, it was my first time with rendering, so these times might be due my lack of understanding and experience. I really don't know if that is fast or slow.

you have to be kidding me! and it was your first time rendering? you are an inspiration. 10 min/frame is a good time if you think that you used sss (or at least looks that to me) in a full body model with vray!
Did you use a custom sss shader, or a bought one, or the default tweaked?
How many passes did you do?
Its amazing how good looks the hair shader, is the default one in hairfarm? i didnt know that hairfarm works with vray..
And i dont understood why you want to do a Fog pass..i cant see it clearly different to a faked one in after effects that im sure you can do it.
The cloth scatter is amazing, i have no idea which shader you used and how crazy you are to use it with vray... my imac teach me to say things like this haha, but the good news is that ill have a new workstation before friday, an i7 2600,gtx560ti, 16gbRam, what workstation did you use for rendering? and program?
Thanks in advance!! i know that i did a lot of questionss

Yes it was my first time, but it also took quite some time too figure out everything, remembering my first renders, it was quite a long way from the first black render to these images.

Yes it is all vray, but the hair. I did not use any preset shader for the image and didn't buy any. The goal was to learn it all while trying to achieve a good quality character.

Pass wise, I kept it very simple, so I only had srgb, zdepth, hair and fog, so no "real" compositing here. I tried to tweak everything directly in the scene, even after I learned some people prefer the other way around.
The Hair was not rendered with vray, it is scanline and mighty hairfarm magic. Then later just added on top of the character.

I have an Imac too only. And I do understand you, I also had quite some performance issues to tackle. Congratulations to your new workstation, sounds serious, as far I understand something from hardware(not much though).

              I did use
              iMac
              Mac OS X
              2.93 GHz Intel Core i7
              8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
              SSD TS256B
              ATI Radeon HD 5750
so nothing special here ( I wish I had bought a proper workstation back then...now)
Parallels for Windows7 for win software

              3dsMax for modeling the basemeshes,
              Zbrush for posing,
              Mudbox for sculpting,
              Marvelous designer for cloth
              3dcoat for retopo the cloth
              xnormal for transferring maps
              Mudbox for redefining cloth
Photoshop and Mudbox for texturing and painting
              Hairfarm for Hair
              3dsmax Vray for rendering
              Photoshop and AfterEffects for compositing
              Caffein for staying awake

              I hope I didn't miss something.

I happy someone is saying / asking something, so you are welcome!

                  It looks awesome!

The model may look a little bit simple in the first view but when you see all the details and read about the process it becomes outstanding.

The leaves floating in the air looks amazing in the turnaround. I will borrow this idea (not leaves but frozen floating elements) for my future projects!

PD: Having an iMac don't make you think about using Maya instead of parallels and all the windows stuff?

nice, the character is so well done and I love the pose and your use of the leaves just adds to the whole thing.
