Default Drawing Jam #75 :: The Joust

The Joust

Deadline: 28th of May 2012 at 12 noon GMT,

The Joust!
Jousting is a martial sport where historically two riders on horseback run at each other and try to knock the other off with a long stick (A lance if you are picky like that). But what if Jousting was...done on dragons or camels...perhaps on mice by fairies. Any which way for this jam we want an action shot of a joust in challenge. Pull out all the stops, perspective, motion-blur, lenseflare...ok maybe not lenseflare but you get the idea

We don't mind what the riders are, or the steeds but they should be running at each other with the intent of knocking the other off with a lance of some description.

        Hey Chris,

        The rider from the looks of his position seems to me to be very of balance due to the slant at which he is sitting at and the position that you have put his left arm. Maybe you should try changing the riders position to push his centre of gravity more forward, especially see as though he is on a steed many positions that riders lean towards the head of their steed so they are not put off balance for example;

        EDIT: Also, you probably would want to think that if your rider was to be attacking the other animal, they wouldn't pull there arm back like that to take a swing or stab due to wanting to put their body and momentum of the steed behind the attack.

        Hope this helps in someway.

              Just an update on what I've done. I messed around with the riders pose and size a little more. I felt that my first rider was WAY to big. also added details to the T-rex's and sketched out the basic position of the other rider.

              Any critiques or advice is welcomed

                    Would something mechanical fit the parameters for the steed? *Like a unicycle, *rc car, or wagon?

                      I don't think it matters, as long as they are jousting each other. He stated in the jam description that the steed didn't matter

                            Another update on what I've got goin on right now. I put down the other rider, which I am pretty happy with the way her turned out, now i am starting to lay down my basic values and such. I usually blend my shadows together using opacity but i figured id fool around with the smudge tool, I've seen some cool stuff done with it before. we will see how it turns out.. might just go over it and just blend. Also does anyone have any good tips on shading metal?
