ohh i see... what i meant is how the building gets cut off on the top... right now it does not seem like very far away... so make sure u play with the distance of whats really in the foreground to whats really far away
Like whats really far has less contrast than whats closer to the viewer

Just a quickie, I should be doing other things

The monasteries were built on the land at the top of the highest peaks at first, until the monks prayer caused the land to rise and rise until it escaped the ground completely. Cutting those on it off from the world for decades or even centuries at a time until their floating home came within reach of one of the peaks so they could share the wisdom learned in their isolation with the world below.

Hey guys Great progress on this ones!!!
@cursed - great start i can see the difference on the distances... ill probably would not have the lava on the bottom so bright so it does not compete with the top building...
@kovah - hheeyyy welcome i like where your going with this... the flying islands are great... all probably add a few more on the left side... and maybe a really big one very close...

KEEP IT UP GUYS!

kovah- Awesome colors as always and really love the idea of floating mountains, i see in the background one looks like it has a bridge going to one of the islands do you plan on making more bridges? Cant wait to see more!

Cursed- love the mood and feel of this, id love to see some lava cracks in this one, keep up the great work!

Horus- Interesting idea makes me think of aftermath of a hurricane or tsunami type of storm, hope to see more of this one

JoseVega- Awesome as always man!, only one thing kind of bugs me the "main mountain" seems almost unstable, that bottom corner seems as if the whole place is about to come down? but maybe thats the look your going for

dimarinski- First welcome to our thread glad to have some new faces second, really digging the idea of a summer/winter look in this one, cant wait to see where you take it, and please feel free to keep posting

lizhulong- Agree with what Jose said also keep in mind foreground and background and make sure you can tell the difference between the two also keep "scale" in mind if you want something to seem HUGE add something that we can relate with to understand size, great start though!

As for me trying a different approach as a giant stalactite, underground type of monastery still playing with some ideas, any crits and comments would be welcome!

@Kovah: love your palette, nice color selection and story behind.
@Cj_Marsh: exactly! but i think that idea is beyond my habilites for now, i restarted with more usual concept :P

    Default Monastery

I've changed the placement of the structures multiple times now, still trying to figure out a good spot for them, I think I've got some major editing to do. For one, the monastery seems like a side note, and that the environment itself is the focus, need to bring to the level of being a focal point. Trying to calibrate colors for my monitor at school, and now this image looks too yellow on my laptop... If anyone else sees this as just almost pure yellow, please tell me.

@CJ - Thanks man for the comments! Great start! I like that your developing the idea of an interior monastery... not really sure still if its water on the bottom! keep it up!

@horus - hey man good stuff! yah definitely it has a better atmosphere. Ill probably add a really nice orange sunset light on some areas to make them pop and make some contrast. cool stuff keep it up

@vladimir - looking good man! i like the slight angle on the horizon line and how it looks like there might be a storm coming. keep working on the values.

@kronso - hey man thats looking great..... lighting and atmosphere looks very nice. Cant wait for final!

CJ_Marsh: Did you a little paint over, add some foreground stuff to give it a sense of depth as well as using the lighting to you advantage to really create drama
Horus: Good start, I think you could add some foreground elements too and perhaps use some clouds or something to bring the eye back round as at the moment its merely following those poles sorta back into the image and to the sky where it gets lost.
VladimirGasai: Nice detailed start, I think your perspective needs abit of work as its confusing atm with the almost vertical towers in the middle and then the tilted arches. They are clashing and look odd.
Kronso: Lovely colours and outlook, its so pretty. Keep it up.
Maxdav: Awesome. Shame you cut the tree off though (I love knarly trees )
Irishmandkg: Loving the colours , can't wait to see more.
lizhulong: Liking your colour palette am finding it a bit confusing in the center though where the dark patch is.
