    Default dZ-ero's Sketchbook

Hello CGHub, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster...and what better to begin my stay on these forums than with a sketchbook, right? Right!

I value everyone's constructive criticism, so please do not hesitate to criticize my work.

Nice start! I like your water colourish approach, but don't be afraid to add a larger range of values. The guy with the sword has a strong pose, but his head seems a bit too small for his body. Keep posting more!

Thank you for the warm welcome, guys! I am still not very good with values to be honest, but I am actively working on getting better at that. I hope my upcoming entries in the sketchbook will show a greater range of values and contrast.

@kevin-: Thanks for taking a look at my site. You have some really neat pieces yourself!

@rich4rt: I agree, the head does appear to be a bit too small.

hey DZ- great stuff!!! to be honest i do like your rang of values.... is very subtle but it works.... maybe its that to separate the different elements with a different tone... like how u have the girl her skin has a lighter "tone" than the hair but the range of value of both is very little.... thats how the old masters used to do it.. great stuff!!!! i hope that makes sense
            and WELCOME!!!!

Thank you, Jose! I understand what you mean and frankly -- depending on the work -- I do like my often subtle range of values, but truth be told, it's often by accident and not a conscious decision on my part. I don't think that it is ok, so it is certainly good practice for me to try to push the range of values more as Richard and Kevin have suggested. I have definitely taken everyone's input to heart and am working on this particular "flaw" of mine, but I feel like I have only progressed slowly in this matter so far.

While I don't think the sketch attached to this post has a far greater range of values than the previous entries in this sketchbook, I would like know what you all think of it.

Beautiful! I like this animeish kind of style and coloring.. Why don't you bring it further by adding a background? ^^ It would give the characters more character

                  Welcome to the hub!
Nice start, i'd recommend you (if you haven't already) to do some anatomy studies (and studies in ganeral)!

                  Keep it up!
