    Question Boot Texturing Grrrrrr! Help!

    Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I would like to ask for some help.
I am working on a still life that includes a boot.
I would welcome any feedback regarding my z brush sculpt but at the moment I am struggling with my texturing. I have taken some raw images of the boot in as flat light conditions as I can get, and painted them so that they fit the uv space and match the sculpt. I have started painting out the spec and the shadows by using the clone on darken or lighten. However I can't seem to darken it enough and when I do the highlights just get softer.
I hope that kind of illustrates what I'm trying to do but I do feel a tad lost.
I would welcome any advice or techniques I should employ.
I should add that I will create spec and bump maps after this diffuse is done.

    Many Thanks.

    Ast

      Hey Ast,

How's it going? First off you have two different boots I take it the pinched toe on the right is the one that is needing the texture help? What is the workflow that you are approaching for the spec map for that texture?

As far as the boot on the left I would keep watch towards the center where the ankle should be if the boot were on. That pops out to me first when looking at the sculpt. It seems a bit narrow for that size of a boot for the foot. Secondly, I would also check out smoothing out the cuff of the boot at the top some. The left boot's sides wrinkles look rushed and a bit under weighted whereas on the right's, time was taken to consider the density of the material. Those winkles seemed more natural.

Look forward to seeing your diffuse, spec, and bump maps when they arrive!

      Hope this helps some,

      Tica
