I'm a firm believer in the idea that a healthy mind starts with a healthy body. Even if you're working 12-16 hours a day or more, it really pays off to eat well, get at least an hour of exercise (preferably outdoors), and get at least 4 hours of sleep. I haven't personally tried it, but meditation or yoga can also help you focus.

Beyond that, it really all comes down to disciprine. Any time I'm on the internet, I check my history to make sure I don't spend more than an hour online in total each day. Same with TV, comics, etc.

maybe try some music or try and remember it helps improve your skills. in the end though everyone needs some downright dedication. good luck in staying focused!

I had serious game addiction issues. The best thing is to just realize they're in the way and just build some willpower to fight it, took some time but I've been clean from gaming for almost half a year and I've been able to do so much more since!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!
I'm trying some instrumental music, like Medwin Goodall, and turn off the internet while I'm painting. So far it's working well

Do not buy anything from Blizzard...Diablo 3 is about to eat my soul, crunch it up into unproductive mush then spit me out in a few weeks...

Haha, Kovah I am with you ;-)

I guess you are as me, rather new to arts. For me it mostly comes down to changing habits. Many years, it was just natural to come home, switch on my computer and play video games. I am now trying to get to this point with drawing/painting. Especially because I realized that to much consuming(Games/Books/TV) blocks my creative output, disregarding it steals my time ;-)

Listening to music and physical excercise before drawing/painting helps me the most. And if I need a break I actively don't do anything besides drinking or eating. And I usually try to have at least half an hour of a break to really get rid of the spinning in my head.

                Good luck bro

One of the bigger ways I encourage myself to practice the arts is by often coming on cghub or zbrushcentral and looking at peoples' sketch books or portfolios. After I stare at cool stuff for 30 minutes not only do I build up some awesome anticipation to draw or sculpt but I also increase my visual library, which helps me great deal.
