HEHATEME Is your username a shout out to good ol' Rod Smart from the XFL?!? Awesome! Thanks for the kind words!

johnhopkins It's not just your monitor. That thing came out way too dark. I'll definitely be going back to that image as soon as I get a chance and giving it a proper finishing. And thanks for the kind words!

Ew what a terrible way to start off page 2 (a post with talking only) - laaame.

Soo let's fix this. I told myself I wasn't going to post WIP images anymore, but the aforementioned travesty cannot stand.

Here is my interpretation of Molly Millions from William Gibson's Sprawl Series.

Cool stuff here! You seem to have a good understanding of form and value. What I think you could improve though is that at least in your non-referenced work you seem to loose focus on the materials and everything ends up having the same quality to them ie. hair looks the same as clothing. You've gotten better at this lately but still something to consider

Keep on going! You're on the right track.

Jokinen Thanks! I definitely see what you're talking about. I need to do more studies in the midst of working on non reference illustrations/designs.

Sebastian Hey hey! Thanks! You too!

Awesome sketchbook Pierce! My only suggestion is to play around a bit more with saturation. Some of your works can get a little dull or gray because of the saturation. Otherwise, keep going!

Stace Hey thanks! I definitely will do that. Color is one of my (seemingly endless list of) weaknesses in general. I think saturation is a huge part of that for me.

                  Environment study and some Bridgman.

Good Lord those are some serious studies. Your CHOW character is great, really admire your imagination stuff. I myself am terrible at doing things without reference/from imagination. So all your hard work is pretty inspiring!

Also, those 8 studies of the exact same leg (knee?) anatomy is just seriously hardcore.

JH Thank you! I got back to you about the anatomy study method on your sketchbook - all Bridgman and trying to pound it into my brain permanently :P

Couldn't draw for 3 straight days... feels disgusting. So good to get back at it.

Here's a quick timed study to shake off the rust:

The last study is looking great! Don't be afraid to spend more time on the drawing phase of a painting, even a study. It might be a pain in the butt to do and might take too long but it'll help keep your proportions in check and make it easier to paint.

Stace Thanks! It's funny you mention that because that was the first study I'd done in a while with no line drawing at all. I just blocked in all of the colors from the start... just trying to mix it up and see what happens I guess. But you're right - the drawing ended up being off in some spots and a line tight line drawing would have helped a lot.
