I'm currently studying at Think Tank Training Centre in North Vancouver, BC and I cannot recommend it enough! Alumni and their work speak a strong word about the quality of the training at TTTC. I was originally accepted to the 3D Modeling Animation Art and Design at VCAD and one of the Think Tank students whom I was in contact with wisely told me do more research. I would pass along that advice also. Read reviews of all the schools and try to check out all of the institutions if it's possible for you. There’s nothing quite as valuable as seeing the school and owners first-hand. Reviews of TTTC are very strong and we have many students here who would be more than willing to share their experiences if you're interested (myself included)!
Some of Think Tank's strengths include:
Small class sizes - 12 Students per class makes it very easy to build invaluable connections and improve your skills and knowledge very fast and efficiently.
Industry Professional Instructors and Mentors - All of the teachers at Think Tank are currently employed in the industry and most all have impressive film credits. For example, one of the 3D modeling teachers/mentors worked on District 9 and Elysium.
Great support - Another huge advantage is the fact that, even if you don't finish your demo reel by the end of the course, you can stay as long as you need to finish it at no extra charge.
Up-to-date software and hardware and dedicated work stations are a couple of other advantages.
Think Tank may seem more expensive, but I can tell you that if you're willing to pay money to get into the VFX/game industry, Think Tank is totally worth it! The course is very intense, basically two years in one and it makes for fast paced learning. As with any school, you must also do your part and put in the time and energy. Think Tank is not just another school out there to take your money and kick you out the door without proper skills. Getting your foot in the door of the VFX/Game industry isn't easy and Think Tank's one year program is geared towards teaching you what you need to break in.
There's much more I can say, so if you have any other questions, you can feel free to contact me or the school or even stop by if you can!
Again, be sure to do your research and good on you for asking around! I wish you the best with your decision making and hope I was able to answer some questions for you!
