    Default In-ground Highway City

I have started to work on an post apocalyptic city/town that is built in an in-ground highway. Right now I'm working on the content and parts that will make up the final render. Still a longs ways off.

    Work done in Blender

Thanks. The highway is sunken into the ground, or at least that is what I felt like when I rode on the inspiration in Philly. I was on I-676 and there is a chunk of the drive that has these high walls and feels like your in-ground. I checked out google maps road view for inspiration.

The section your are viewing is going to be an area that is dammed for a manmade pond or reservoir.

even better than what I thought of. That is actually really badass. I cant wait to see the final thing. Maybe (i would) put like writing that says like locations and all that were people are hiding on the walls. and maybe put some remains of human activity (like after the apocalypse) - im thinking lean to shelters or like open hoods with fires or whatever around the bottom

While a good chunk of the main backdrop content done, I have started to work on a waterhole / fishing hole.

In blender its a matter of using the correct material, IOR, and displacement settings.

I would recommend looking at videos on youtube by Feng Zhu and Bobby Chiu. Also check out the videos on conceptcookie.com. But there are other great artists and tutorials out there.

I'm close to getting one of several shots I would like to produce. Here is my progress on a watering hole.

It might just be me, but that tank looks too pre-apocalypse. I think it should be maybe a rusted out metal oil barrel or something.

Thanks. I don't plan on texturing the environment as I am focusing on the development of my modeling right now. The more I look at it I agree the tank needs to be a barrel of some sorts.

Here is my rework of the barrel. Unfortunately I'm starting to think I am forcing this angle and setup. Opinions on restarting or not would be appreciated. Thanks.

maybe do an angle kinda like this - like at the level of the barricades/water facing the barrel and the over pass. That might be cool - but I wouldn't start over, just keep pushing - add some interest/life or death though, like some dead fish and some lily pads or some flies around the water. Maybe add some dust; Oh and maybe to get colors and all that, assign materials - nothing outrageous, just subtle changes to the flat gray

Thanks I'll try that angle and see how I feel with that.
