Just another update. Rendering has always been tricky for me but this is the best version I've managed so far.

cats, dogs bears all have largely forward facing eyes and dont have a primte origin so that statement can't be true.

Mostly carnivores and creatures that rely on depth over arc of vision have this. Make your critter a carnivore and you give m these eyes (herbivore and the best evolution would be eyes all around).

Merry Christmas, everyone!! I think I'll give the gift of a few crits and comments!!!

pr0t3r: Pretty cool start so far, it's feeding arms seem a bit awkward and stiff atm, I'd also recommend cropping the image a bit, unless you have some other plan with the comosition I feel it may be better off a bit tighter on your creature. I'd also add something for scale little plants or some other little critters.

Tchuk: I don't think your rendering is too bad, too me it seems more in the early stages, a bit more time devoted to fleshing it out especially around the focal areas. I'm not too sure about the glowing ears, as a docile creature that often runs and hides from predators that may not be the best feature, imo. Not saying a little bioluminescence isn't good, but I think it may be a bit much. Just my opinion though we'll see hoiw it turns out later.

Lenskij: Looks neat, I think the head looks a bit too big for it's body however, and it's feeding arms seems like they are just pasted onto it, rather than naturally articulating with it's body.

grooflebof0: sometimes working with simple silhouettes before painting can help you come up with ideas for designs, one of the great things about silhouetting concepts is that you are able to come with design that you would not have thought of initially. Don't be afraid to experiment when silhouetting, add in some interesting shapes to see what you can come up with, spend only a few minutes on each silhouette so that you can create a lot of ideas in a relativly shart time. Also when painting your image keep in mind the composition of the piece, when I saw the thumbnail on the thread, I could not make out what was happening in the piece until I clicked on it. Be sure that major shapes can show up even from a small thumbnail so the image reads more clearly. Add in some contrast especially around the focal regions, in this case the creature's head.

Irobgollem: I like the second image better than the first, both the warmer pallette and the foreground critter, I'd recommend adding some cooler hues to the shadows to contrast with the warmth so it will push the forms a bit further. I'd get rid of the trees though, I don't think they work too well in the composition.

I think I'm done with my entry so far, just waiting for the finals thread!! This was a really fun topic, had lots of fun with this piece! tbh I thought I'd really muck up the colours cuz I'm always useless at adding colours to greyscale images, but I think I did a decent job this time!

                  Default triclops

                  Hello,

Here is an update of my triclops

Looks like I will go with squirrel's shape for this one.

                  A little update:

i wanted to go for a mammal type of creature, tried a little zbrush sculpt as well, but i don't like what's coming out...
so i think i will restart from scrap, and try to go for a reptile version....probably a mix between a frog and a chamaleon
