This is a pretty good. I can't wait to see the updates as they start coming in. Somethings I would recommend for the face would be to have some of the boney structures of the skull a bit more prominent so that the planes of the head are more clear as they would be with character having a thin build like this. Mostly the Zygomatic bone/Zygomatic process could be better featured.

With the hat the stitches are too big right now, it's more important that the seams between the separate parts of the hat and you'll probably want to create your own custom alpha for that. Ryan Kingslien has a pretty nice custom Alpha demo video here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=071622)

The eyepiece could probably also benefit from some shortening and a shape closer to that of the eye socket.

This looks really interesting. There are a few things that bother me a little though. I would have liked to see the claws with a bit more geometry so that that wouldn't have the rough faceted look. From the rendering/compositing standpoint I feel like the overall gamma or brightness on the character especially in the feet area could be lowered to help it blend more with the image plate.

Thanks for the critique, ive done some changes to the picture.
Though its not the claws or darkening of the character, the changes ive made is that i gave the arms a bit more texture and the background brighter, which as you say, makes holmes blending in to the background. At this point im really satisfied with the picture and decided to leave it as it is to this point, so unfortunatly the claws will have jagged edges. Well, here it is:

Really nice tweaking Jon. The plate adjusted worked out pretty well as did the material/lighting adjustment on the mechanical arms. The image is more balanced on the whole.

Damn it has been long since i've had the time to touch this. Too much work :-( unfortunately i have to abandon this model even though it's still heavily WIP, because of the amount of work heading my way.

I really like your model Jon, it is very comical while still fitting the challenge.

Looking better kasp although I would consider shrinking the mechanical ear construct down a bit since the way it is now is counter-intuitive with how and where head and neck connects.

You may also want to start smoothing out the bumpiness in some of those areas like above the upper lip and probably pinching some of the creases with Lazy mouse to get your creases cleaned up and well defined. You don't even want to be thinking about texture on something like this until all the way at the end.

With that eye piece, you may want to consider building a second piece that's more of an eye-cup versus a tube:
