Default 3D Creature Planets #14 : Creatures of the Deep

~Challenge begins December 13th 12:01 am EST.~

Some of the most bizarre and monstrous things imaginable are found on earth, in the deepest parts of our oceans. Living in the harshest environments known, pitch black, incredible pressure, and viscuos carnivorous creatures that feed on one another.

This months 3D challenge is to model/ sculpt a crazy, bizarre and montrous underwater creature. Use reference from the creatures that exist on earth and then push that design beyond the original. Maybe your deep sea monster lives near a volcanic crack deep in an abyssal trench, how would that effect this creatures as it adapted to its environment.

Requirements:

Post your WIPS to show progress and get feedback if needed.

1 greyscale and 1 textured, posed (dynamic action), any angle

render in any program
.

Do some thorough research before committing to the one you want, every time I found a new one I was like" cool, this would be .. oh this is awesome too..."

Examples:

Despite the ass-whipping I received in the golem challenge, I will try to submit for this one as well.....might be tough with the holidays coming up though. Best of luck, everyone!

As for the mention of the upcomiong holidays... I totally understand.. I will be there with you enjoying my homemade caramel popcorn, turkey dinner and beer... so I am open to an extension if too many people get really lazy and do nothing but eat and sleep for the next month....

Don't let it get you down. It took quite a bit of expertise to make that wooden golem. If I had followed through on the "bubble wrap and duct tape golem" I thought about making, you would have looked awesome by comparison.

Default I'll throw my hat in the ring

I am scared with all the talent here, but this seems to fun to pass up.
So I will give it a go and possibly learn something in the process.

Haha...thanks! I'm not too worried about it. I still think it was a great model and that the texturing turned out really nice in the sculpt. Unfortunately, the technical problems I had in zBrush that stopped me from posing it and really showcasing the details held me back. I think I will avoid braiding zspheres in the future

Oh I just realised this is a 3d Challenge. I guess it would be a good reason to learn Blender. sad about my Zbrush trial ending.

Cool! Love slimey, scaly, creatures Just converted to Zbrush from mudbox, so keen to give this challenge a go!

BTW, a great TV show to check out for reference is: River Monsters some truly weird looking creatures in nature.

Vastarien - I thought your entry had a great concept, but it just looks like you ran out of time ( like my last entry to the starwars comp lol ) keep it up dude, hope you enter this one.

Lots of different ways to skin a cat. Not only Blender, but Wings 3D and Art of Illusion are out there as free programs. You might even be able to make a brittle star out of SketchUp.

                  Hello!

I'm sorry I may be off topic, but what should I do to participate (except for the work itself)? I didn't find rules for this comp. Should I post my WIP here (in this thread) or create one by my own?

                  Thanks!

Everyone post their wips here , then once the challenge date is up you post your final in the finals thread.

Also if you guys can post a reference image with your first WIP that would be cool too.
