    Default Futuristic Soldier

I've wanted to try my hand at doing a cinematic character for awhile now. When i saw the concept for this guy it was perfect. Not too complex, simple shapes so i can focus on execution.

I made up a blockout this weekend that i'm going to take into maya and model on top of.

I would love any and all feedback anyone has for me during this process. I'm sure i'll run into plenty of problems (especially when i get to mental ray materials) since my knowledge in mental ray is fairly primary.

Also I had started to run out of geometry towards his feet, so i'll just block out his feet separately or just straight model those in maya. They aren't too complicated.

WIP. Finished the helmet model, moving onto the textures. Going to Take the helmet all the way to completion to establish the amount of wear and tear.

Just focusing on the metal right now, havent touched the red light thing ontop yet.

Hey cool, nice work so far. I realy like your metal texture, its looking very believable.

The only thing which I want to crit is the sape of red ligthing thingy on top of the helmet. In my opinion its too simple in comparison to the rest of your model. Maybe you should add some detail to it (simple extrude or smth.) to enhance the design.

Looking forward to see some updates here.

Here's a small update. Added some IBL to him. It messed up a couple things (like the carbon fiber on the side of the helmet), but made the metal bits look about 75% better in my opinion.

I want to break up the reflection abit on the front of the helmet. It's looking like shiny plastic, but i think if i break the reflection map up more it should help.

And no, the glowy head lamp isn't finished hah. Just did it for fun. I do want it to sort of look like that, but the glow from it is too strong, plus its not actually emitting any light.

Finished up the arms. Moving onto the cloth under the arms and neck next. Give it some zbrush love.

Finishing up his back and lower torso. Onto the legs and feet! Almost done modeling.

Hey! Nice texturing! I like the dust on the feet. Maybe some more wear and tear on the knee pads... you know he's and assault character and he might fall and shoot while kneeling and such... just my opinion. I personally do not really like that red light. I'm looking at the concept and it appears to be more narrow and tapered at the base... I think you should darken the diffuse... the material in the concept looks a lot darker... or is it just me. Even so it look cool. Keep going!
