Welcome to cghub Lotsaluvin!
Your first piece isn't bad, just keep painting and you'll ge better real soon. Look at Feng Zhu's youtube channel, he has lots of videos about digital painting (and he's one of the best in the industry) -> http://www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL PS: There aren't any 'gifted' artists out there, just those who works harder than the others ![]()

Hey Lotsaluvin,
First - thanks for the compliment and the homage! Much much appreciated. I think you did a great job for your first painting! just keep at it. it will take its time but you'll get more an more used to it. At a certain point you'll get the knowledge how a brush will work when you do a stroke. And thats half the way. And painting, painting and painting… You watched my video - and you see - no magic just knowing your tool is important. The same as in maya (OK - way little options and sub menues (and no crashes)). Another good thing is that you could easily do a rough base model from what you want and bring into PS and do a paint over. A pretty common technique nowadays. Especially for environments and vehicles. So just keep em coming and paint. And don't forget the important thing - THE FUN!! And welcome to the HUB ![]() @ Kherns - honored and BLUSh ![]() @ Lutsaluvin - Try to keep your brush set clearly. But play around with it in the beginning, at least to see which fits best to you. I do have a ton as well - but mostly using just 4 or 5 from it. Another good thing is customized shapes. If you're not familiar with it - just drop me a line and I'll try to do some screen cap for it soon. I think this will explain it much better than my poor english ![]() Keep it up, buddy!

@malo - I would love to see a screencap on custom shapes, I understand the general idea (stamp them on the screen and tweak size / erase unwanted areas, color etc.) but I dont know how to make them yet
. And painting is WAY harder than I thought lol. Its one thing messing around with an abstract landscape, but I was working on a WIP for the 2d challenge, and I guess the 2 approches I thought would work... well they dont work so well... lol ><Anywho, while I'm working on those in photoshop, I snagged a quick couple of seconds to do some sketching. First one was with no reference... yah fail, but you gotta post em I guess lol. Next is using an ESPN mag for reference. It was fun and I still have a headache from the amount of sharpie I inhaled. ![]() This one is more of a joke. I have a whole animation class where we are animating nothing but vikings, so I jokingly made this... me as a viking. worked out well for halloween too!

Just so people don't think I stopped working... ( had tons of work and school to keep me busy ) heres a WIP for one of my design classes. The background is a birds eye view of the park and I felt like doing a more art nouveau piece. Original is 24.5" x 36.5" I hand drew the girl with references scanned and repainted in photoshop.
Yes I know the type on the bottom is hard to read, and NO she is not intentionally flipping you off... or is she? >.> <.<

lol honestly at this point I'm really working on transitioning into more digital work. I don't know if I like painting or lining more only because I haven't done enough of it. I felt like the technique in the line work turned out beter than the painting. I dont know, I think the next painting I'm going to work on will be more figurative which will be harder for me since I can't fake it as much. :P
anywho thanks for the feedback guys!
