    ****************************************

BRIEF: Design inanimate characters in a coffee shop. With attitude.

    Character Types: Inanimate
Setting: A local independent coffee shop.
    Race: None, they're inanimates!
Challenge Limitations: Must be an inanimate object character. This is a completely fun round, do whatever you want, as long as it belongs or can be found in a coffee shop.

Back Story: It's a typical Friday night at Anne's Coffee House, located in the middle of a bustling downtown business district. The shop is closing and the last customers are hushed away as Brian sets the store alarm and locks the front doors. He scurries off with his girlfriend to catch the new Avengers movie.

All seems quiet inside the shop, but the alarm turns itself off and disarms. Then a voice from the alarm says: "OK boys and girls, it's time to settle last week's dispute about who is the better coffee bean!"

"There's no question that *I* am!", says a voice from the coffee bags near the register.

"No way you're the best coffee bean, everyone knows its the Italian beans that reign supreme!", says a voice from the imported coffee jars.

"Brazilian coffees are the best in the world!" says a voice from the storage room.

Then the cupboards fly open and all sorts of coffee mugs, cups, and containers leap onto the counters below. The espresso machine hums to life and begins brewing as the refrigerator unleashes the milk containers on the barista counter.

"It's coffee time!" shout all objects in the shop!

    Animate Inanimate Object

The rest of the story is up to you. Design some cool and interesting coffee shop inanimate characters going at it to prove who is the best coffee in the shop.

I'll pitch in something just to fill in the void.

I think this guy can be anthropomorphized. I see the coffee basket handle as his nose. I guess I would put his mouth at the heating element ellipse. I want to look at the eyebrow ridges I have on a gargoyle at my office today to decide how I would treat his eyes.

Here's something a little more visible. I still need to give more attention to the perspective of lines here and there and I want to fix the teeth so they extend back into the mouth correctly. I want to fix some confusion that is here about orbital ridges and eyebrow placement (that is the result of me doodling around with pencil to see what I like and not keeping good track of anatomical consistency). Eventually I will have to decide if I want to ink and watercolor this or go digital.

I hope a side by side comparison reveals some improvement over yesterday. Traditionally I have gotten locked into my lines much too early and there are still a few days left.

Default New Deadline ~ Oct 23!

Hey guys, in order to create more participation, I have extended the deadline to Oct 23 (Sunday night). While this isn't the regular type of challenge we are accustomed to, it's still worth checking into and giving it a try. There is a *huge* market out there for children's books, and as illustrators it's up to us to take a writer's vision of their story, such as those of inanimate characters, and and turn them into reality, making a fun experience for the readers!

I have also been very busy lately with some personal work (you know, the freelance stuff), but I want to give everyone (myself included) a chance at this cool challenge. Thanks!!!

I still need to go in and clean this before I begin to work on the shading values and other subtleties.

Looking good! At least you have a character - I'm still working on mine! Probably will be 2 coffee cups fighting over a lady bean bag! :P

Heh Heh. That sounds like we already have a plot going on, since my guy is probably the curmudgeon sidekick to the evil machine that grinds beans.

Default There's no T in 'Coffee Shop'

Seemed a little sparse around here, so thought I'd put forward a little offering. Of all the things in a coffee shop, the actual machine is probably the most important, and the TEA option being the least so.

I'd expect this pecking order to follow through to antrhropomorphic versions
