If anybody's confused about what this activity is all about, feel free to PM me.
<> Follow the brief. Of course there's always room for your interpretation of the brief.
<> Color or black and white are both OK
<> Digital or traditional media are both OK
<> All skill levels are welcome here. We can all stand to get better but we only improve if we try.
<> We accept only finished artwork that was made for this activity.
<> Please only one entry per episode per participant.
<> If possible prepare a voting thumb like they do in the other activities.
<> Have fun, above all else!
<> No tracing: http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=55427#post55427

Overall in this activity we we be focused on places rather than people or creatures. These will be the sets, or matte paintings if you like, upon which characters, creatures, or vehicles might play out their respective roles within the broader story line of a game, movie, or art for a print work. My co-moderator and I will present you with a batch of information concerning the setting of a game or story and your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to knock my socks off with your best attempt at drawing that set. I know you can do it!

Until we have a 3D version of this activity, I am willing to accept works that were prepared with 3D programs as long as you pick a single view and export that view to a 2D file format for upload.

Please don't keep everything a secret, working on your image in private only to post it at the very last hour as a surprise. The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per se, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.

The Brief: A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

STAR WARS
Jedi Temple Round

With all the star wars round we here at new worlds think its time to do one of our own, this round is to design a Jedi Temple, this is not the Jedi Temple on Coruscant but rather this will be where ever in the star wars universe you think it should belong, there have been numerous temples in the star wars lore and your goal is to create one of your own, is it a hidden temple? Training ground? abbandoned? you decide and feel free to play with the whole dark and light side of the force with this one good luck and may the force be with you...

Deadline October 20th midnight central standard time

@ Cursed: It's a little bit centered, I mean in terms of where the major vertical elements are placed. That will make for a static feeling composition. Offsetting the major vertical element to one of the third lines is a way to give it a more dynamic feel, as though the viewer is actually walking right into the scene. Good foreground, middle ground, and background divisions. There is a sense of large scale.

Here is what I have so far.

@cursed- great start and love the look/feel of it so far onky thing is try and bring some starwars elements into it, lets get the feel that this is in the starwars univers add some tech maybe a statue of a jedi or ruins of said statue, great start overall cant wait to see more of it!

@art-not sure where this one is headed but not really much for me to say til i see more, looms like a bit of a platformed structure.

Cursed- this is looking good. I like the warm colors on the ground that were in your original version. Also The size of the figure in your last post is throwing off the scale of your temple.

Arttorney- I'm envisioning those things in space?

Looking forward to everyone's progress.

Hi everyone.
Just like Cursed, I'm not an expert of the Star Wars universe but I'm gonna give this one a shot, it's been too long since i've participated to a challenge.
I maybe gonna add some guys on flying bikes to give a more futuristic look.
C&C are welcomed

A space backdrop on a moon-like world is my fall back position. I intend to fill some other areas of the composition with some flying things. The upper right intersection of the thirds is a place I can have a flying thing coming for a landing toward one of the towers.

I have an environmental program coming on UPS ground probably tomorrow that can make stupendous sky domes, mountains and the like. I thought about making the towers sticking up out of a sea with some wavelets ranging out into the distance in about the lower third and just use sunset clouds for a lot of the interest in the picture. The lighting on these towers is as though a bluish sun is setting at the lower left intersection of the thirds. Much depends on how quickly I can install and learn the rudiments of the new program. I can make a moon surface or an ocean in my existing software without too much trouble.

The towers themselves I already have saved as a hi-res .png with transparent background but I just gave you guys a lo-res WIP on a black background. I will probably go back to the towers and put the lights on them and put in the flying things in 3d and re-render them to make sure cast shadows and local lighting effects look right.

In your posting window there is a little black paper clip on a green square in the upper right. Clicking there lowers a pull down menu of all the attached images you uploaded with Attachment Manager. Selecting one of the images places that image where your cursor is.
