Default 2D Drawing Jam F.A.Q :: NEWBIES please read first!

2D Drawing Jams FAQ:

What is this Drawing Jam thing?

The 2D drawing Jam is a bi weekly activity with a random chosen topic to get your creative juices flowing. Every two weeks a theme or topic will be chosen - often from the idea dump - and you will then have two weeks before submitting your image to the 'poll' thread where the rest of the forum can choose their favourite image which will gain its owner a place in the hall of heroes and a shiny badge for under their name.

Please make sure you enter the current challenge (highest number round) old rounds are there for inspiration but we ask that you refrain from posting in them otherwise it can get confusing for other users.

What mediums can I use?

Anything considered two dimensional: Digital - painted, vectored ms painted etc. Traditional - any kind of paint, mixed media, pencil, crayon etc. If your skills edge more towards Three Dimensional do check out the 3D challenges. Though we would not reject images created in 3d programs do keep in mind this is mainly a drawing challenge rather than a modelling one.

Please do keep in mind this is more of a painting and illustrating challenge, copying or tracing photos outright is not permitted under any circumstances. Please read the new Reference Image guidelines

Are there any rules on the images?

The images must be created by you for the challenge (no old or reused art) and conform to the Terms of the Service of the board. The full ToS can be found here

You may post as many ideas images as you like with the aim of narrowing it down to one polished image at the end for the poll. You can only enter ONE image in the poll

What about this poll?

The poll is just a bit of fun and a bit of competition for those that like it, and for the winner a nice little badge and a feature on the main banner. The main point of these activities is to get you drawing with aiming to win the poll a secondary point. Please do have fun with these rather than be 'in it to win it'

Does this poll have any rules?

If you add to your image after the deadline and before the poll is finished please don't post it in the thread until the poll is finished and the winner has been announced because it can get confusing for people and mods as to which image they are voting on.
Late entries or entries without the correct thumbnails are only included at the moderators discretion. Please make sure you read the first post of the Finals/Poll threads for information on posting your entry in the correct manner.

So how many votes should I give?

You can vote for as many images as you want, though voting for everyone can be a little redundant.

Can I vote for myself?

Technically you can, but you risk your vote being removed if it is spotted and therefore it is wasted. We know you like your own picture. Give someone else the praise by voting for them.

So what should I post?

Feel free to post all your wip's and scribbly little ideas for the challenge in the main thread, we love watching them evolve into illustrations. By posting them you will also probably receive crits and pointers that will make the picture stronger and you a better artist. Once they are finished and normally a couple of days before the deadline a Finals Thread will be put up, this is where you put your finished piece and thumbnail (using the thumbnail template provided) and wait for the poll.

So how exactly do I post images?

This thread gives you all the information you will need

What happens if I miss the deadline?

It is up to the moderators discretion as to whether they add your entry to the poll. Generally if the poll is already up you will have missed your chance.

What if I have another question?

Please read the following tutorial for the Finals Thread

Please feel free to post it here or contact one of your friendly neighbourhood moderators.

As far as the redesign goes , what exactly qualifies? for example could the redesign be parodied, off something like a Sin city look , or they look power rangers and have big robots and stuff , or is it more about just changing the style of the character? I would like to know so i dont do something that will disqualify me.

    Welcome to 2D drawing jams.

The redesign could be almost anything, i would say only that it has to be recognisable on some level as a disney character. There are some great entries already that should give you a good idea

You could take it as pretend you are working for disney and they come to you with a description of a character eg. 'A grumpy white duck that flies into rages' or 'A black mouse that wears gloves and red pants'

    Hope that helps

      Hi,
I am new to CGHUB and get a little lost in the world that is CGUB
Could you enlighten me as to how someone could join or follow this group so that when the next 2d challenge is made I can participate. I am really happy to find something like this as it would greatly improve my drawing and creative skills. Hope that a new drawing jam session comes soon

      Hi,

      Welcome to the Drawing Jams

You just need to check back in this form and there will be a new thread for each activity. The current one is Pirate Animals which I think ends on sunday (the information is in the first post of the thread) and any other questions are hopefully covered in the FAQ above. If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask

hi there! i just wondered if we are limited to one submission per sketch jam, or can we submit different ideas to the relevant threads and then pick one based on the critique and comment of fellow participants? thanks.

You can do as many idea's as you want for the CURRENT round which is God of War at the moment. However you can only enter one of your images into the poll at the end of the round.

Part of the aim of Drawing Jam's apart from having fun is to essentially give you a brief and a deadline and ask you to come up with your best idea much like a real art job.

The old rounds are left for inspiration but please try and refrain from posting in them as it can get confusing

i would say around 900px wide so people dont have to scroll to see the image that you embed in the post itself. Though if your work is highly detailed and bigger you can also upload a much larger one and leave it as a thumbnail in the post

You just have to post in the thread to join in, you do not have to sign up in any way to the drawing jams
