New Worlds #30:: Danger room

Overall in this activity we we be focused on places rather than people or creatures. These will be the sets, or matte paintings if you like, upon which characters, creatures, or vehicles might play out their respective roles within the broader story line of a game, movie, or art for a print work. My co-moderator and I will present you with a batch of information concerning the setting of a game or story and your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to knock my socks off with your best attempt at drawing that set. I know you can do it!

Until we have a 3D version of this activity, I am willing to accept works that were prepared with 3D programs as long as you pick a single view and export that view to a 2D file format for upload.

Please don't keep everything a secret, working on your image in private only to post it at the very last hour as a surprise. The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per se, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.

The Brief:The Danger room, the special training room for the Xmen where the students can train themselves for the field and how young mutants can learn to use their powers in a safe environment. Your job is to design this training room, bring shape to this room and show us how these xmen train themselves!

sounds cool. maybe i'll give it a shot. do the xmen actually have to be in the danger room in order to better show the features of the danger room or does the challenge just have to showcase an empty room?

We prefer that this is mostly about the environment in New Worlds but I could see how it would make it easier to show how the danger training facility works if there are figures in the artwork.

Please don't make an X-Man close up with a little bit of danger room showing around the corners.

Normally i wouldn't like to be amongst the first people posting WIPs for this kinda thing..
so here's what i'm working on at the minute, what I'm aiming for a convex wall at the back with a reddish tint/glow thing. Along the floor are these..portal type things, which opponents for the training X-man appear through. Comments appreciated. This is a fantastic challenge!

Quick update, added two more portal panels, adjusted opacity on the back wall and added a Holographic interface with profiles for opponents.

@sophai, glad you enjoy our challene and thanks for participating, as of now it seems a little hard for me to see the actual "room" itself try to watch perspective and also try to use some colors to compliment eachother that way the painting itself really pops out, again great work keep up the hard work and cant wait to see more done with it

There seems to be a lack of energy due to a lack of participants. (even though the thread has 1,000 views) I think crits might help. If more ppl participate then we can all give each other feedback.
I'll try to participate in the next one.
