    Default samurai_fighter

So I did this in order to improve as a concept artist ..I am practicing .. I am not looking for a traditional samurai, but more like a mixed style... a modern fighter.. I am planning on working the torso/arms area with some sort of body armor. I would like to avoid weapons (he would fight using martial art) but at the same time I would like he belt to have few stuff on it . Right now the one thing that concern me in term of design is his belt...I am not so sure about the items I put on he belt..... So that was my opinion but I am open to any critics of this community. Thanks in advance for your critics.

hey buddy very cool.... i like the take ur doing on this. i like his helmet a lot but he kinda looks like out of balance. he looks he is about to fall. maybe if u have his right leg move back to put for balance it will help with the "flat stance he is right now. i would suggest sticking to b/w till u have the final design and then move to color. thou u seem to have a cool palette already for him just keep it in mind. im curious about how his shoulder pieces attach to him...so maybe some diagonal straps? here is a smal paintover..... i hope u dont mind!!!

Thanks for taking the time, feel free to paint over. I agree with pretty much all for feedback. The leaning issue is a priority to fix .Yes after refining the design I will upload a version with improved gray scale... As for the shoulder I may found something else for its attachment because I am planning on having carvings and ornament on the torso area of the armor ,though your solution is a quick and efficient way to fix the issue... hope to update soon thanks

I put the color aside so I can focus on the design and the grayscale.
I am changing my mind a little , and going more for a traditionnal look. For the leanning problem I changed the perspective of the belt now seen from above,
but i try to keep the torso leanning back so he keep the military attitude. But is it still too much?

Hey buddy....sometimes i find that working in grayscale works better for design and when thats worked out then i can play around and have fun with colors. So i was looking at your update and i was trying to figure out what was throwing me off... I think it is that some "pieces of him u have them as a front ortho view (arms, upper legs, waist, shoulders, feet) but then some other areas (torso, head, lower legs) are kinda 3/4 so here is my recommendation, my 2 cents.....If you wanna show this pose of military like u describe kinda leaning back looking down empower type pose, it will look funny if you have a fron ortho view cause u wont be able to see his back leaning back... so i suggest change it all to a 3/4 view where u can see most of his left side, you should be able to see his latisimuss dorsi well defined and curved and his right side u will get to see a small proportion of it. This also depends on what your trying to accomplish. If is just a concept ill try to be more dynamic with the pose and angle.... (try making the pose he is making and look in the mirror.... i tried and it feels a little out of balance and weird. So do the pose u want him to and look urself in the mirror and the angle and yes....it might be funny but it actually helps a lot.... agrrhh sorry im talking too much... im at work and im bored...but anyways... thats just my 2 cents...it might seem like a lot but its good to push it...do not marry a design or a drawing...dont be afraid to break it all up and start over. I think thats also part of being a concept artist... anyways... cant wait for the update... ill try to do a paint over later but i cant atm since im at work... take it easy buddy! KEEP PUSHING IT AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!
