Your contest entrie was pretty good , it miss a bit of "counter value" ( dunno if the word exist really ) like on your shadowed area put lightly another color in order to not make your piece too dark , and you can pusha bit more the specular , it'a good piece nontheless ^^

Hi your stuff looks great , really like that you post your real paintings. Makes me wish I could post mine aswell. The Jabberwock looks great as well.

If I may offer a bit of feedback for your 60 second studies, they seem a bit flat and maybe if you use 3d shapes like cylinders and such, for the gesture they would improve a lot. It's just when I started it really helped me with picturing the models in 3d.

Also in your final work of the Jabberwock I think it would greatly improve with a bit of texture or grit on the trees and its skin/scales.

Great work keep it up

    Default Good Stuff!

Thanks for sharing your sketchbook... It's cool to see another artist's "raw" product... It gives me ideas and let's me know that other artists are going through the same testing and playing with styles that I am going through. I think your best pieces (in the sketchbook) are the spontaneous ones...like the girl with the stuff coming out of her eyes and the dude with the big coat body and skinny legs. They had a lot of character to them! I'm not gonna critique 'cause I'm just starting, too! Thanks for posting!

        Barren forum be no more!

Howie - Thanks for your response! Especially about working traditionally, I haven't thought of how effective brushstrokes are. I definitely will be dipping back in oils soon.

asahi-superdry- - Thanks! Something to keep in mind for the next pieces... I'm still learning this whole color thing.

Jaan - Interesting point, thanks. I'm usually so absorbed into the 2d shapes of the form, but rarely 3d when working from photos. I miss drawing from an actual model, must change that. Thanks for your critique on the Jabberwock piece, as well!

DURTYC - Heya, thanks dude! I'm kind of all over the place, and I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing yet. I try to keep being spontaneous, but that doesn't help too much towards my career path - an illustrator. Pretty sure writers won't be happy if every image is different than before. I'll stop by your SB, we can be newbies together!

antefab - Thanks for stopping by!

OH MAN. No excuses here, just an overall lack of drawing. A month has gone by and I don't have too much to show. Gotta keep count of my victories, not my defeats.

I just realized how much of an eyesore large images are. Ack.

Anyways, I am going to start updating at least once a week now, more if there is more to post. I got to stop trying to leap over canyons, but rather, need to build up from the rock bottom. /rant

Whoa, Wednesday already. Okay, time for an update! It's small but it's better than nothing!

Sketching! I think I'm going to need to limit my time with my brush pen.

            Default hey!

Nice Sketchbook! lot awesome things going in your sketchbook... liked you gestures too . just let your pen be litte fluid. i mean i see lot of lines instead of curves.. never mind ..different artist do things differently... choose your strength and go for it...

speed paintings are good . i hope i get a wacom soon ! loved ur sketchbook..keep posting.

nice stuff you work hard.. on the painting i see that you use mainly soft brush.. try to use soft and hard brush.. it will make the image much more interesting

Ravi_Gupta - Heya, thanks! The brush pen is super fun, but I can get totally lost in its potential. I tend to focus more on the silhouette than the shapes within a design, so away the brush pen will go until I can control my shapes better.

MarcSampson - Thanks for the feedback! I'm still trying to figure out those damn brushes...

I'm a bit disappointed by how tiny this update is... But I spent today drawing as much as I could. I think restricting my use on the brush pen kind of knocked me back, but I started a study book that will be entirely of pencil and really am motivated about drawing in it everyday. Just started it today, more shall come.

Ravi_Gupta - I love life drawing, gonna do more of it because it's so relaxing. Your turn, time to do some life drawing and update your SB with it!

These regular updates are the best reality checks. What did I get done in a week? And then actually seeing it... Wow, not as much as I thought, but like I've said countless times already - better than nothing!

Relearning some basics, and loving it!
