Default 3D- Mark Abramowsky - Wiliam Shakesphere's Three Little Pigs

Well, I'm jumping into the fray.

Here is a rough sketch of my initial concept. Its the Three Little Pigs on stage with the Big Bad Wolf in a Shakespearean Theater.

I am still at the sketching/research phase so there still is a lot of work to do. I am going to the library after work and try to find some books on Shakespearean costumes for reference. This sketch is all that I am showing for now. I will post other stuff later.

Here is a shot of the first pig which I modeled in Zbrush. I'm planning on modeling all the figures in greyscale and then painting over them in Painter.

I never tried this technique before so this is a learning experience for me.

EDIT: This is at the default rendering preview. I'm not worried about how the render looks yet. Right now I'm busy just modeling.

Here is the 2nd Pig. Again, this is the default rendering right now. I'm still focused on modelling the characters. I will worry about the rendering later.

I updated the 2nd pig. I added a crown and smoothed out the dress (It doesn't look like a cheap hulu dress now).

Also I posted a rough start for the third and final pig. He will have a cape and a crown. I will post more in the future.

Here is a revised update of the last pig. I added a crown and cape and cleaned up the mesh a bit.

I also want to add that I made the chain with the help of a tutorial by Joseph Drust on the Pixologic website. It really is a well written tutorial so I appreciate it made life a lot easier.

Now I am going to work on the Big Bad Wolf who is dressed like Hamlet. I am going to do some sketch of different poses and then I will take it from there.

Work-in-Progress shot of Hamlet's Rapier which will be part of the Big Bad Wolf's costume. I'm not sure if it will be sheeved or not. I'm reworking the big Bad wolf pose..

                A trio of updates.

The first Big Bad Wolf has been revised from the earlier sketch (See Post #1). He's bigger and more threatening.

The 2nd pic has me using a new feature called spotlight on Zbrush where I can use a photo (this is a picture of a wolf skull) and use it as a reference for modeling teeth. I never used spotlight before so this is pretty cool.

The 3rd pic has the wolf with some clothing. He's still missing his pants though.

Updated pic of the Big Bad Wolf. I added the Rapier, belt, smoothed out a bit of the clothing. I also began adding the prelimary fur to the legs, head and paws. Still some work to do.

I think I'm done with the wolf. Usually I wait a day or so with fresh eyes and check to see if anything is needed.

The changes I made: Fixed the puffy shirt, added fur on the cheeks (which made him look more wolf-like as opposed to dog-like), added hair in the inner ear.

Tomorrow I'm going to go back and update some of the pigs and work on the stage/curtains.

                      I added to more pics

Picture 1: Here is another shot of the Big Bad Wolf. This time I added grey scale value to him: Darkening the shirt, painting the fur on his face, etc.

In fact, I did this for the other 3 little pigs but I'm too lazy to post those pictures.

Picture 2: This is a rough composite shot of the stage, wolf and the three little pigs. I finally put all of them together and did a rough render of this. I still need to go back and adjust the lights and play around with different rendering settings.

Also the picture feels a bit unbalanced so I may crop off the left or right side. I haven't decided yet. That may be my final decision actually.

Picture 3 : This is the same picture as #2 but this time I spent some time adjusting the lights. I plan to try out different render settings and composite them in photoshop. More on that later.....

                        Work-in-progress shot 1

I added some baseline colors (underpainting) and worked on the curtains. In fact, I spent all Sunday working on the curtains. Also I chopped off the right side of the picture which improves the composition.

I'm not in love with some of the colors (like the 1st pig's green outfit) so that will change in the future. I was just trying out some color combinations...that's all.

                          Work-in-progress shot 2

I reworked the floors, the skin tones of the pigs, the purple cape, the green outfit for the pig on the left.

The skin tones took a long time. In the previous work-in-progress shot, you see heavy blank lines and lots of grey shading which made the characters seem really muddy. This was due to the rendering that the 3D program made when creating the picture. I went through all the skin colors and reworked the dark and light areas. As a result, the character's colors seem to pop out more and it has more vibrance.

I still have to work on the 2 crowns, The Big Bad Wolf, the white dress, add hair and eyes and final touchups like spots on the skin. So there is a lot of work to do.

Almost done. I worked on this all day and made some major progress. I still have some minor tweaks to do before I post it in the finals forum. Not much though.

Ok. Here is the final shot. Not a whole lot of changes from the previous picture. The Rapier, it's holder and the belt was worked on. I added hair to the third (rightmost) pig. I made bigger pupils to the Wolf's eyes. A few other things here and there.

So I hope you guys like it.
