I'm really looking forward to the results of this contest, it looks like there's already some great images.

I have been working on a couple of ideas.

The first idea I started working on involved a 'battle ready' riding hood. I wanted to change the fairy tale red riding hood, with her naivety and vulnerability, into a strong warrior. Also, to give her a worthy adversary I decided I would need a bigger wolf.

So this is the first sketch I created, a red riding hood with a cape made from her previous kill, looking up towards a large wolf.

I started working on the flats and basic renders of this image but decided to evolve that Idea into something I found more entertaining.

I want to make the wolf extremely large, and slightly stupid, unlike the sly and cunning wolf portrayed in the fairy tales I have read. I would also like to replace little red riding hood with a whole army of red riding hoods, and I thought of a fun title that is 'little red riding horde'.

So hopefully I will upload the new sketch soon.

I have started to lay down the basic shapes and values.

I have put the finishing touches to my illustration. I read Bobby Chiu's critter tutorial in Issue 72 of ImagineFX, and I looked at the hairs on his critter design when I was painting the wolf. The fur on the wolf is much different to Bobby's critter but i'm pleased with my result and studying his work definately helped me. I also tried to vary the textures in my piece. I think in the past I have fallen into the trap of using similar textures on each part of my painting. I tried to keep my painting clean, and I wanted to use bold colours in an effort to make the image vibrant in print as well as on screen. It's been a fun contest, now I need to find out where to upload my picture. On this post I have included a quick colour sketch with a low res version of my final image. Thanks, Bryn
