What a round! Huge variation, even with such a detailed and precise creature description!
Moai - Cheers! And please post again at creaturespot! Here's some comments. I added critique - we're trying to improve here, right? But please say so if I am incorrect. Stimpy - Love those mouthparts. Also a nice subtle hint at the setting using those planets. You have a nice texture going on on the skin as well. I can't help but feel that the positioning is slightly awkward. He just doesn't seem to 'line up' in terms of perspective. If you place a pencil from the tip of his mouthparts on the ground and align it along the body, you may see what I mean. Lukasran - Great image of the Frilo 'in action'. I like how your design is quite experimental and alien. Clearly not something from earth. The contrast between the hard pen and the soft blurred areas can be a little strong. Though it does work well in some areas -like the flowers. aims - Lovely creature with a strong caterpillar influence (love the distinctive legs!). I think that works well, although you are missing the maritime element which is a shame. I also like how you paid specific attention to some organs and anatomical features such as the eyes and mouthparts. Somehow, I wonder what the process was like. The front legs of your creature have a firm grip on that twig. The two legs in the back are just floating there or resting on a quite artificial extension of the twig. Did you add the rest of the twig later? Daitengu - You got my vote. Wonderful illustration along with a good creature design. Though your creature does look like a vertebrate, you are very precise on all the other details from the description. Compositionally, having a second Frilo in the back in the exact same pose is not helping - you can do better! The back one also seems to be touching the border of the image, which rarely works. Great job, I'd love to see more from you in future challenges! Natzuurjk - Love how you handled the environment. Very convincing with a nice atmosphere and depth. Though it does make your critter look slightly large. I like how you handled the creature's skin, you can almost feel it. I'd say the legs could use some more functionality; they seem ineffective. You make smart use of textures, I need to learn that myself. Santana - Crazy creature! Truly alien, with smooth shapes suggesting an aquatic touch. I think you need to be careful with the rim lighting along the edge of your creature. With a light source in the back, light should not be hitting the creature all over. Sometimes being modest with the (high)light can achieve better results. I tend to make the same mistake... |
