    Hi there, good ideas around here!... I just made my pirate animal, need some finish and some text I want to add, but this is almost final image. I wanted to keep a simple render so it can fit on a children book. Hope you like it.

    IMAGE ERROR, I will upload it later

                I just joined the boards yesterday and saw this. I thought it might be fun. Going to try and finish this before the week is out. Let me know what you think

                Also, absorbent... that map look rather phallic.

                    Default captain jack the monkey

                    i thought about a stile of the illustration, since it should be something suitable for a kids book, i choose to make it with bold outlines, it makes the picture more memorable for kids~ i think (thats what i learned ^^) suggestions and feedback are welcome!!!

                      Sup jammers!

                      I forgot to share this prep. studies for my drawing. Need to put more marks before pimp here...

                      @PassionForCake: Hey. Welcome aboard. I´m new to these lands aswell.
                      So, here´s some advice I can give to you:

                      First of all, I´ll give a second try if you´re aiming this drawing for kids audience. I had the chance to work for some educational stuff once, and one of the things I´ve learned (mostly by trial and error) was to avoid complicated camera angles - which sometimes helps to make better silhouettes.

                      Can sound logic to us, but small kids can´t understand easily some tricks we used in your drawings simulate "3D", like overlap of forms, line weight, shading, etc.
                      Anyway. If I´m going to draw a picture like that, knowing that my target audience would be childs, I would make it more simpler to read the action (side view always work) and I would try to make it more cartoony (less internal details in forms, more caricature in elements which describes the character - like the mustache, the banana-sword, the ears...).

                      Anyway. If you´re going to keep the actual dynamic drawing (which is fine for more growth kids), I made a rough construction upon it, so you can see what I would push further/correct in my version:

                      a. make overlaps more evident to push the perspective. In my version you could see how I cheat it, making the front arm and foot bigger-closer to the camera.

                      b,c.avoid Tangents (ambiguous overlap). The arm needs to look in front of the hat. The foot need to look in front of the pants.

                      d,e. if I was going to work on this splash image, I would use those elements (feather, tail, sword) to make a swirl composition. One point carrying to another, in a circular way.

                      f. I think you´re drawing this monkey from mind. Dude, the better you make for your art is to use references. Google some pics of chimps and would see how they have an remarkable face feature, which you have to translate in your drawing style. I would avoid use "symbols", like the the mouth-shape or the ears cavity, per example.

                      That´s it. Just my two-cents about this subject -which I love. Hope you can use some of it.

                            @Mubuk: I like your weasel!

                            @The Crew: I don't have many suggestions, but they sure are cute, and you made a bunch of them. I like the chef best.

                            @Tbaldree:

                            @TylerE84: SKY PIRATES!

                            @absorbentghost: THANK YOU!!!

                            @DadoAlmeida: Nice sketches! And you seem to be a live treasure-chest of information. Nice!

                            Ok, so here's another take on my pirate-bird. Coloring is hard for me, so I wanted to draw something that'll be a bit of a challenge in that regard. Any advice?
