Default The Durosni

Hi all, im gonna attempt this weeks comp, due to me having a full week of work.

I put this together today.

The Durosni do not respire instead it uses the holes in it chest to draw in Methane and Amonia and processes them as a fuel (food) it gets other chemiclas and minerals it needs from consuming other lifeforms (mostly carrion).

The Durosni has to consume a mineral that is found in most places on hull, which it uses as a oxidiser to aid its anarobic motablisim. This mineral like substance is a byproduct of bacteria like organisms life functions.
the Durosni often build their hives near more dense collections of this oxidising deposite.

The durosni use their hardened mantal to hammer at rocks to build their hives and for fighting.

The male durosni uses that dextrus hand not only for food monipulation but to inplant his sperm into the female via the females scales located on it lower abdemon shown in the image of a female below.
He has to place a packet of sperm under each scale which a passage leads to the ovary. Only 5 eggs at one time will be laid and allow to hatch even so all the other eggs have been impregnated.

Female Durosni

Gyork -- looks good so far! My only comment is regarding the senses:
Quote:
Location of Senses: centralized on the body (in one location)
As the description is a bit ambiguous, a head structure is fine if you want to include it, but the intent of the description is that the senses were on the body, the bioform itself lacking what we'd describe as a "head."

Couple of updates. As much as I'm trying to thing out of the box with this critter the most challenging features for me have been "asymmetrical, endoskeleton, and playful". For me those 3 things keep it from feeling to much like a bug or plant or jellyfish-like animal and more like a creature.

The "winglets" as well as the top soft shell of the creature is where a chemical methane exchange happens, passively through osmosis yet actively controlled by the motion and direction of the winglets. I imagine "good air" being received by the frontal areas and the "exhaust" releasing from the back.

Next I will work on the eggs and environment. Would be fun to sketch his "cousin" to show individual differences.

Hey guys, thought this was a cool challenge I might try since I normally don't do creatures.

@ Natzuurjk: I really like the insect feel of your piece and the eyes. Maybe be aware that this is an arctic specimen.....insect wings are extremely fragile in the cold.

@ Sardeanie: Awesome concept...something about it reminds me of HP Lovecraft.

@ Ogi-O: A great concept, I like the bulbous feeling but again be aware of the envio. This guy looks like he would probably be more at home in a swamp.

@ Stimpy: That is one burbly looking creature. I love it....kinda reminds me of a mutant freeze dried chicken come back to play ball.

@ cyl1981: I love the little poof ball interpretation. Kinda reminds me of Gizmo....I think it captures a kind of whimsy that fairies have- cute and fluffy but with the potential to be deadly. Rock on!

looking good everyone I will give my comments later I really don{t have time now sorry.
Quick update just to share the idea, like I said is a bit of a squid, the eyes are on the body now, it stunts the pray with the crystal on its head I also want to put different kinds of heads on the right showing how not only the crystals but also the bone structure of the skull and jaw varies, it has two long tentacles with claws and a thicker one that it uses in case it wanna smash something jeje Ialso wanted to play with the low gravity thing so I put some floating glaciers on the background, still very rough I don{t have more time to work on it today. Ohh I just noticed that I have to make the two claw tentacles longer so it can reach its mouth mmmm.......

Gyork, I love that new design -- remember, these guys are vertical -- so if you turn that design upright, you'd be on track!

Damn this guy is tricky!! the flying system actually makes more sense vertical my idea was that it could fly in any direction because of the low gravity I think it could fly and eat vertical and attack horizontal that would make more sense, the position of the mouth is the only thing that worries me

              Default Hey all

              Hello all,

Decided i would take a few minutes and try to throw out a silhouette before bed. This is a pretty hard description to get right! Will start on the form and habitat / illustration tomorrow if i get time! Seeing a lot of cool stuff, def got some inspiration!

Rethought my approach. Diamond shaped growths are along the dorsal - they're small, so they don't stand out much. I figure it flies by undulating it's sail, which should give it enough lift since the gravity is low.

Played around a bit, so here is the new morph, not as cute as the previous design, but does seem more alien. TwistedKitty thanx for the support, keep brainstorming , and see how far we can take this, same goes for everyone ~
