Hellloooo

Baldez: That's a pretty good start you got there.

Aeze: Cheers dude

Geo: Man that looks pretty awesome I really like that thing on its head looks like armor, but it looks like it naturally evolved to be hard to protect it.

so I decided to take a break from the actual monster and work on the environment for the monster. I think I tried to go with too much so I'm probably going to remove stuff.

Thinking of going back and adding detail for the Otyugh as well but I'm not very good at doing really small detail stuff.

I'm leaning towards the middle image I think the environment is more distracting then it helps. But for a demo reel it might look nice when it rotates.

reminds me of a Bulbasaur.

Cheers

I opted out the HD-Geo cause my CPU is hurting.
Here are a couple of color schemes I was working with.
Thanks for the input, and keep up the nice work everyone.

      Default Umber Hulk

Ok i've spend quite some time working on this now, i'm really slow. Anyway here's a wip. I'm still modelling the base mesh. I'm starting to feel stuck or in the need of some feedback.

Here's a new sketch i did. I like this concept a lot more.

And here's the beast. I still got a lot to do. A lot of twicking and quite a few more pieces to model before i can enter Zbrush and start detailing.

      And the wired version:

I can't wait to see him with all theses small tentacles in the mouth, i also plan on giving him a Dune worm like inside mouth. Hope i'll have enough time!
I changed the feet for some more insect like feets, i don't know which one i like the best. Any opinions? Insect or "more monster like"?

@Lapiz: I love the saliva, so much fun

      Hey Aeze-
      Coming along great!

I like the flow and feel of it so far. The thin legs do offset the balance though. The umberhulk is a huge 8 foot tall monster that can claw through solid rock. The legs should look like they are able to hold up the great mass of the upper body and arms.

When you bring this into zbrush google rhinoceros beetle to use as reference. These things are creepy!

Mind flayer base mesh is done. I'll post a render tonight after work. Will start zbrush tonight as well. I want to model the hand grenades and energy blaster in the the pic as well. My finished pose will be the same as the pic without the dying adventurers.

Not 100% sure what i'll do for the Mind Blast attack... maybe model it and comp it in photoshop ... have some cool ideas but still unsure.

kryssmen: Awesome, I actually like how you decided to go for the classic mind flayer. Haha gotta dig those undies

Aeze: Nice base mesh, I think for my base mesh it was way too simple and it ended up giving me a few problems but with a base mesh like yours I think you'll be all set.

Geo: yeah me too I can't go into HD, I only have a laptop to work on. Also I think if I did go into HD I would be concentrating too much on minor details that probably won't be seen instead of the whole package. I've never used HD before as well so don't want to risk it.

I haven't done anything new on my piece yet since I'm giving the 2D Drawing Jam a go, I'm pretty weak at 2D so I thought it would help me improve.

I have 1 question how finished should these pieces be? like should it just be a sculpt does it need textures, lighting etc?????

How finished do people usually go?

Cheers Keep up the awesome work everyone!

Lapiz ~ a front , side and 3/4 shot (base material) of the final sculpt and a posed beauty shot ( which you already have done!)

you can go full out and texture if you want. If you do texture it then you can use the beauty shot to show it off.

Take it as far as you can, the more polished the better...

            Great work !
